A semi-quantitative Real-Time PCR strategy was developed to identify potential indicator organisms for anastomotic leakage in peritoneal drainage fluid, Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis. The analytical performance of the amplification method was validated with 10 culture-positive and 7 culture-negative peritoneal drain fluid samples, obtained from 9 different patients with a colorectal anastomosis. Real-Time PCR results were fully concordant with the microbiological culture results. However, among the culture-negative samples, four false-positive RT-PCR results were found. All false-positives originated from a single patient with a surgical site infection. This may indicate an elevated sensitivity of the RT-PCR method. The results showed that the semi-quantitative RT-PCR method has a clear potential to be useful as a powerful tool in early detection of anastomotic leakage.

Background: The role of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in cytoreductive surgery and/or Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy HIPEC) is evolving, with promising results that improve patient outcomes. This consensus exercise was carried out to address and standardize components of the ERAS protocol pertinent to the Indian context.

Method: The modified Delphi method was employed with two rounds of voting.

Background: The beneficial impact of peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter placement following cardiopulmonary bypass in young infants has been demonstrated. But the indications to start early peritoneal dialysis are not agreed upon.

Methods: This retrospective single center study was conducted to evaluate the performance of a clinical strategy for early PD start.

Background/aim: During hyperthermic intra-peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), perfusion instability (PI) is defined as the inability to maintain a proper perfusion flow without impairment of the target temperature. The management and resolution of this adverse event is underreported and poorly investigated. The study aimed to evaluate the incidence of PI during closed cytoreductive surgery (CRS)-HIPEC and how a problem-solving approach might limit the effects of this adverse event.

Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ajou University School of Medicine, Suwon 16499, Republic of Korea.

Upper para-aortic lymph node dissection (PALND) is one of the most challenging gynecologic robotic procedures. This study aimed to evaluate the oncologic and operative outcomes of robotic staging surgery, including upper PALND, using low pelvic port placement (LP3) in 22 patients with high-risk endometrial cancer. High-risk was defined as patients who showed deep myometrial invasion with grade III, cervical involvement, or high-risk histology.
