Lisfranc Fracture-dislocation With Extensor Hallucis Brevis Tendon Interposition: A Case Report.

JBJS Case Connect

January 2025

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Nemours Children's Health, Wilmington, Delaware.

Case: A 14-year-old adolescent girl sustained a Lisfranc fracture-dislocation with an interposed extensor hallucis brevis (EHB) tendon. Following multiple failed attempts at closed reduction in both the emergency department and the operating room, the patient was treated in a staged manner with temporizing closed reduction and percutaneous pinning in improved alignment, followed by definitive open reduction and internal fixation once soft tissues allowed.

Conclusions: Anatomic reduction and stable fixation of Lisfranc injuries is vital to regain stability and reduce the risk of midfoot arthritis and collapse.

Institute of Life Sciences and Health (ILSH), School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth PO1 2DT, UK. Electronic address:

Conjoined twinning is a special case of monozygotic, monoamniotic twinning. Human conjoined twinning, and vertebrate conjoined twinning in general, is a very rare phenomenon. It has been suggested that the risk of conjoined twinning increases with some medication and upon assisted reproduction.

We propose a method of to improve an attention mechanism in a whole slide image (WSI) classifier. Generally, only some regions in a WSI are useful for lesion classification, and the WSI classifier is required to find and focus on such regions for the classification. Multiple instance learning and hierarchical representation learning are widely employed for WSI processing and both use attention mechanisms to automatically find the useful regions and then conduct the class prediction.

Purpose: Comprehension of the anatomical characteristics of pediatric kidney tumors is crucial for making surgical decisions. Previous kidney tumor nephrometry systems failed to incorporate two significant factors: tumor thrombus and multifocality. We develop a refined nephrometry system based on a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics exhibited by pediatric kidney tumors.

Imaging the entire cardiomyocyte network in entire small animal hearts at single cell resolution is a formidable challenge. Optical microscopy provides sufficient contrast and resolution in 2d, however fails to deliver non-destructive 3d reconstructions with isotropic resolution. It requires several invasive preparation steps, which introduce structural artefacts, namely dehydration, physical slicing and staining, or for the case of light sheet microscopy also clearing of the tissue.
