Randomly growing Chinese hamster lung cells were pulse-labeled with 3H-thymidine, and the replicating forks of individual DNA fibers were visualized by autoradiography. When grown in complete medium, wild-type SV40-transformed cells had more forks per unit length of DNA than nontransformed cells. In isoleucine-depleted medium, wild-type SV40-transformed cells had fewer forks per unit length than those few nontransformed cells (1-3% of the population) which continued DNA replication. Cells transformed by a tsA mutant of SV40 when grown at the permissive temperature had more forks per unit length in complete medium and fewer forks per unit length in depleted medium than nontransformed cells, but when grown at the restrictive temperature, the tsA-transformed cells behaved like nontransformed cells.

Background: In an aging surgical patient population, preventing complications such as oversedation has taken increasing priority in perioperative care. Intraoperative use of virtual reality (VR) may decrease sedative requirements. We hypothesize that the use of immersive VR during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) will lead to decreased propofol requirements, improved patient-reported satisfaction, and reduced postoperative opioid requirements compared to active and usual care controls.

Objective: This pilot implementation study introduces a novel, neonatal-specific virtual reality (VR) simulation platform for resuscitation training and assesses its initial feasibility and reception in a neonatal intensive care unit setting.
Study Design: We developed a custom VR model simulating a resuscitation scenario for a 30-week neonate. Neonatal providers completed individualized training sessions and post-training surveys.

Familial dysautonomia (FD) is a rare genetic neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorder. In addition to the autonomic and peripheral sensory neuropathies that challenge patient survival, one of the most debilitating symptoms affecting patients' quality of life is progressive blindness resulting from the steady loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). Within the FD community, there is a concerted effort to develop treatments to prevent the loss of RGCs.
