Background And Objective: Measurements of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I) play a pivotal role in the evaluation of the growth hormone-IGF-I axis. Due to assay variation IGF-I reference ranges are assay specific. We provide serum IGF-I reference ranges for adult men and women obtained by a commercially available assay.

Method: IGF-I was measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (R&D Systems). Assay precision was evaluated in low, medium and high IGF-I pools and in single samples from outpatients. The reference ranges were obtained in 724 healthy Caucasians, mean age 48 years (range 19-91).

Results: IGF-I was measured higher in serum compared to plasma samples (p<0.001, R2=0.96). To convert EDTA plasma values to serum values a factor of 1.22 was calculated. The intraassay coefficients of variation (CV) for the low: 56.4+/-2.7 ng/mL, medium: 179.7+/-5.9 ng/mL and high pool: 445.61+/-3.2 ng/mL (mean 1 SD) were 5, 3 and 3%. Interassays CVs for the low, medium and high pool varied between 7-10, 5-7, and 6-9%. Reproducibility between 4 different lots showed a intraclass CV of 0.99 (95%CI 0.98-0.96). Logarithmically transformed IGF-I levels were linearly associated with age with a 13% reduction in IGF-I per decade in females and 11% in males.

Conclusion: We have provided IGF-I reference ranges obtained by an assay that showed variations and reproducibility that was considered of sufficient high quality for clinical and scientific use.

Study Objectives: The complete blood count (CBC) is one of the most commonly ordered blood tests with a large range of reference values that does not consider time of day for interpretation. Our objective was to systematically review this topic to report on peak and trough timing of CBC values.

Methods: A systematic search was performed for studies evaluating any component of the CBC with at least three collections over 24 hours.

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction condition produced by dysregulation of the host response to infection. It is now characterized by a high clinical morbidity and mortality rate, endangering patients' lives and health. The purpose of this study was to determine the value of Long chain non-coding RNA (LncRNA) RP3_508I15.

Amphiphilic copolymers of comb-like poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (PPEGMA) with methyl methacrylate (MMA) synthesized by one-pot atom transfer radical polymerization were mixed with lithium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide salt to formulate dry solid polymer electrolytes (DSPE) for semisolid-state Li-ion battery applications. The PEO-type side chain length (EO monomer's number) in the PEGMA macromonomer units was varied, and its influence on the mechanical and electrochemical characteristics was investigated. It was found that the copolymers, due to the presence of PMMA segments, possess viscoelastic behavior and less change in mechanical properties than a PEO homopolymer with 100 kDa molecular weight in the investigated temperature range.

Have human activities been accurately evaluated in sediment yield changes in the middle reaches of the Yellow River?

J Environ Manage

College of Soil and Water Conservation Science and Engineering, Northwest A&F University, Yangling, 712100, Shaanxi Province, China; Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Chinese Academy and Sciences and Ministry of Water Resources, Yangling, 712100, Shaanxi Province, China.

The middle reaches of the Yellow River (MRYR) in China are some of the most severely eroded areas in the world. Knowledge of the changes in sediment yield in the MRYR is of great significance for understanding the impact of human activities on soil erosion and sediment transport. Using data from the MRYR and 13 sub-basins, this study aims to evaluate the actual contributions of human activities to sediment yields and to examine whether the widely used Mann-Kendall test has underestimated this contribution.

Objectives: Autoverification increases the efficiency of laboratories. Laboratories accredited according to ISO 15189:2022 need to validate their processes, including autoverification, and assess the associated risks to patient safety. The aim of this study was to propose a systematic verification algorithm for autoverification and to assess its potential risks.
