We report the first case of invasive mucormycosis secondary to Actinomucor elegans infection. A severely injured soldier with a fatal A. elegans var. kuwaitiensis infection is described. The identification of this fungus was performed by classical and molecular methods, and this report documents the pathogenicity of the recently described variety Actinomucor elegans var. kuwaitiensis.

Article Synopsis
  • Treating wastewater with carbendazim is tough because it's harmful and complicated.
  • A fungus called Actinomucor elegans LBM 290 can break down carbendazim quite well, removing 86.6% of it in just 8 days.
  • The fungus changes when exposed to carbendazim, showing it can produce special proteins to help it survive the stress from this toxic substance.

Eucommiae Cortex (EC) is frequently used alone or in combination with other active ingredients to treat a range of illnesses. An efficient technical instrument for changing cheap or plentiful organic chemicals into rare or costly counterparts is biotransformation. It combines EC with biotransformation techniques with the aim of producing some novel active ingredients, using different strains of bacteria that were introduced to biotransform EC in an aseptic environment.

The influence of four carbon and nitrogen substrates on the quality and flavor of a novel surimi-based product fermented with Actinomucor elegans (A. elegans) was investigated, with a focus on carbon and nitrogen catabolite repression. The results showed that the substrate significantly affected mycelial growth, enzyme activities, and the metabolites of A.

Aims: Mucormycosis is a fast-progressing disease with a high mortality rate. The most important factor determining survival of patients is early and accurate diagnosis. Although histopathology often recognises invasive mould infections at first, histomorphology alone is insufficient in providing an accurate diagnosis.
