The economic development of human activities contributes to the discharge of many anthropogenic pollutants. To assess the environmental risks in the Jaguaribe River, the most important river in the hydrographic region of the Eastern Northeast Atlantic, a bibliographic review of scientific articles and a series of ecotoxicological bioassays were conducted. The bioassays were conducted using sediment samples at six collection sites along the river, while the bibliographic review was used to identify the presence of anthropogenic contaminants in sediment and tissue samples of aquatic organisms within two km of each of the sediment collection sites.

The uncertainty associated with the future of viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 poses a challenge to public health officials because of its implications for welfare, economics and population health. In this document, we develop an age-stratified epidemiological-mathematical model to predict various health outcomes, considering the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. The analytical model proposed and developed for this research is based on the approach constructed by the COVID-19 International Modelling Consortium.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers used genetic screening to identify key genes that help these persister cells survive during both normal and stress-induced conditions, uncovering a role for detoxifying reactive oxygen species (ROS).
  • * They discovered that antibiotic exposure generates ROS, which can worsen bacterial death, and identified that the enzyme KatG is critical for the survival of persister cells under certain conditions, particularly in nutrient-deprived environments.
