Two novel metal coordination polymers, [Zn5Cl4(BBTA)3].3 DMF (1), and [ZnCl(BBTA)(0.5)(DMA)] (2) {H2-BBTA = 1H,5H-benzo(1,2-d:4,5-d')bistriazole}, have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions using ZnCl2 and H2-BBTA in DMF (DMF = N,N'-dimethylformamide) or DMA (DMA = N,N'-dimethylacetamide). Moreover, a highly efficient microwave synthetic route has been developed for 1. The structures of both compounds have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 represents the first example of a novel family of cubic microporous metal-organic frameworks (MFU-4; Metal-Organic Framework Ulm University-4), consisting of dianionic BBTA2- linkers and pentanuclear {Zn5Cl4}6+ secondary building units, whereas compound 2 forms a dense 2D layered framework. Phase purity of both compounds was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. TGA and variable temperature XRPD (VTXRPD) experiments carried out on 1 indicate that solvent molecules occluded in the large cavities of 1 can be removed at a temperature >250 degrees C in high vacuum without significant loss of crystallinity, giving rise to a metal-organic framework with void cavities. Due to the small diameter of the aperture joining the two types of cavities present in 1, the diffusion of guest molecules across the crystal lattice is largely restricted at ambient conditions. Compound 1 therefore exhibits a highly selective adsorption for hydrogen vs. nitrogen at -196 degrees C. The framework is stable against moisture and has a specific pore volume of 0.42 cm3 g(-1) estimated from the water adsorption isotherm.

Background: Dexamethasone has proven life-saving in severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and COVID-19 cases. However, its systemic administration is accompanied by serious side effects. Inhalation delivery of dexamethasone (Dex) faces challenges such as low lung deposition, brief residence in the respiratory tract, and the pulmonary mucus barrier, limiting its clinical use.

This review examines the recent advancements and unique properties of polymer-inorganic hybrid materials formed through coordination bonding (Class II hybrids), which enable enhanced functionality and stability across various applications. Here, we categorize these materials based on properties gained through complexation, focusing on electrical conductivity, thermal stability, photophysical characteristics, catalytic activity, and nanoscale self-assembly. Two major synthetic approaches to making these hybrids include homogeneous and heterogeneous methods, each with distinct tradeoffs: Homogeneous synthesis is straightforward but requires favorable mixing between inorganic and polymer species, which are predominantly water-soluble complexes.

To solve the energy crisis and environmental issues, it is essential to create effective and sustainable energy conversion and storage technologies. Traditional materials for energy conversion and storage however have several drawbacks, such as poor energy density and inadequate efficiency. The advantages of MOF-based materials, such as pristine MOFs, also known as porous coordination polymers, MOF composites, and their derivatives, over traditional materials, have been thoroughly investigated.

A covalent organic framework (COF) has emerged as a promising photocatalyst for the removal of pharmaceutical and personal care product (PPCP) contaminants; however, high-performance COF photocatalysts are still scarce. In this study, three COF photocatalysts were successfully synthesized by the condensation of benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b':5,6-b'']trithiophene-2,5,8-tricarbaldehyde (BTT) with 4,4',4''-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl)trianiline (TAPT), 1,3,5-Tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene (TAPB), and 4,4',4''-nitrilotris(benzenamine) (TAPA), namely, BTT-TAPA, BTT-TAPB, and BTT-TAPT, respectively. The surface areas of BTT-TAPA, BTT-TAPB, and BTT-TAPT were found to be 800.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have become a highly usable system in various sectors because of their highly ordered structure and high porosity providing them with high storage capacity. However, their use is sometimes forbidden in the food industry due to the presence of some organic compounds which have undesirable effects. Cyclodextrins, which are considered GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) by the FDA, comes as a very good alternative to previously used compounds for the development of the MOFs to be used in the food packaging industry, especially in the packaging sector.
