The paper analyses changes of the daily arterial pressure (AP) profile in patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and concomitant metabolic disturbances. 24 hour AP monitoring and metabolic studies were performed in 3 groups of AH patients. One included 11 patients with AH and "complete" metabolic syndrome, another comprised 21 patients with less than 5 components of metabolic syndrome, and control group consisted of 35 AH patients without metabolic syndrome. The daily AP profile was disturbed in proportion to the number of components of metabolic syndrome. The main changes were elevation of mean AP values throughout 24 hours, increased pressure load and AP variability, rearrangement of daily rhythm toward prognostically unfavourable "non-dipper" or "night-peaker" one.

Background: To date, limited data exist concerning the utility of FDG-PET in detecting Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in Down Syndrome (DS). Yet, sensitive biomarkers for neurodegeneration are essential in this population genetically predisposed for AD. Therefore, we aimed at characterizing the effect of age, disease stage and AD pathology on brain metabolism in a large cohort of adults with DS.
