Isolated Co15 clusters and their assembly into a 3D network: conformation-directed synthesis.

Published: September 2009

Isolated clusters of 15 Co atoms interconnected by six organic linkers, each with two carboxylic and one phosphonic groups, N(CH(2)COO(-))(2)(CH(2)PO(3)(2-)), are synthesized with deprotonated trans-cyclohexanehexacarboxylic acid, C(6)H(6)(COO(-))(6), as counteranions. The cis conformation of the latter, on the other hand, coordinates to the same clusters by replacing the terminal water ligands and links them into a 3D network.

Solms (CO) is a folk medicine for treating infection and arthritis pain but its pharmacological activity and bioactive compounds remain mostly uncharacterized. In this study, the anti-inflammatory compounds of were identified using an LPS-stimulated, NF-κB-responsive RAW 264.7 macrophage reporter line.

The Hom-1 vesivirus was reported in 1998 following the inadvertent transmission of the animal calicivirus San Miguel sea lion virus to a human host in a laboratory. We characterized the Hom-1 strain and investigated the mechanism by which human cells could be infected. An expression library of 3,559 human plasma membrane proteins was screened for reactivity with Hom-1 virus-like particles, and a single interacting protein, human junctional adhesion molecule 1 (hJAM1), was identified.

Background: The stable immune control of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in long-term nonprogressors (LTNPs) with protective human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles raises the question of whether and how these alleles influence the immune distribution of the HIV reservoirs.

Methods: Cell-associated HIV-DNA levels were quantified in blood sorted resting CD4 T-cell subsets from 8 LTNPs with and 10 without HLA-B*27 or HLA-B*57 alleles (HLA-B27/B57).

Results: A remarkably lower infection level of central memory CD4 T cells (T(CM)) was an exclusive feature that distinguished the HLA-B27/B57 HIV reservoirs from the other ones.

Objective: Previous studies have shown that broadly neutralizing antibodies (NAb) are more frequent in long-term non-progressors (LTNP) than in other HIV-1 infected patients, but nothing is known about the envelope regions targeted by these broadly NAb. We investigated whether the breadth of neutralizing activity of sera was associated with the presence of specific antibodies (2F5- and/or 4E10-like, b12-like or 2G12-like antibodies) directed against conserved epitopes known to be involved in broad neutralization.

Methods: We assessed the ability of sera from 67 LTNP of the French ANRS cohort (ANRS CO15) to neutralize four heterologous primary isolates of four various clades.
