It is a common practice for medical practitioners to use subcutaneous infiltration of lidocaine to alleviate the pain of intravenous cannulation or line insertion. Although previous studies have assessed several factors affecting the pain associated with local anesthetic infiltration, there is a paucity of data on the effects of needle bevel position. In this prospective, randomized, controlled trial, we compared the effect of two different needle bevel positions (bevel up versus bevel down) and the pain associated with the subcutaneous injection of 1% lidocaine in 50 adult volunteers. Significantly higher pain scores were observed when the needle was placed bevel down compared with bevel up (P = .02). No significant differences in pain scores were noted between the groups for age and gender.

Background: diagnosis of early chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a challenge due to the lack of accurate methods. The ability of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) guided biopsy to obtain pancreatic core tissue samples in patients with minimal changes of CP and its potential use for the histological diagnosis of early CP are unknown. The aim of the study was to evaluate the ability of different EUS-guided biopsy core needles to obtain histological samples of healthy pig pancreas.

Introduction: EUS-guided fine-needle organoid creation (EUS-FNO) from pancreatic cancer (PC) has been increasingly important for precision medicine. The cost for pancreatic organoid creation is substantial and close to 2000 USD/specimen in our institution, and the specimen has to be processed immediately after tissue acquisition so the more passes and specimens, the higher cost of organoid creation will incur. To date, no prospective comparison trial has answered how many needle passes of EUS-FNO needed for a successful organoid creation.

Background: We investigated the intraneural spread of injected fluid in brachial plexus nerve roots, examining the potential for intrafascicular spread and identifying influencing factors.
Methods: Twelve deliberate ultrasound-guided intraneural injections were performed at the ventral rami of the brachial plexus nerve roots at their exits from the neuroforamina in six fresh, unembalmed, cryopreserved human cadavers. A 22-G, 30-degree bevel echogenic regional anaesthesia needle was used.

In diagnosing and treating prostate cancer the flexible bevel tip needle insertion surgical technique is commonly used. Bevel tip needles experience asymmetric loading on the needle's tip, inducing natural bending of the needle and enabling control mechanisms for precise placement of the needle during surgery. Several methods leverage the needles natural bending to provide autonomous control of needle insertion for accurate needle placement in an effort to reduce excess tissue damage and improve patient outcomes from needle insertion intraventions.

The examination of the prostate biopsy procedure is essential in the optimization of the diagnostic pathway of such a prevalent affliction as prostate cancer among men worldwide. With the core needle biopsy being the standard of care for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, the ability to obtain quality core samples is directly related to patient treatment and diagnostic reliability. Needle deflection and dynamic tissue deformation are two chief sources of unrepresentative samples outside of human error.
