Brain-like energy-efficient computing has remained elusive for neuromorphic (NM) circuits and hardware platform implementations despite decades of research. In this work we reveal the opportunity to significantly improve the energy efficiency of digital neuromorphic hardware by introducing NM circuits employing two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) layered channel material-based tunnel-field-effect transistors (TFETs). Our novel leaky-integrate-fire (LIF) based digital NM circuit along with its Hebbian learning circuitry operates at a wide range of supply voltages, frequencies, and activity factors, enabling two orders of magnitude higher energy-efficient computing that is difficult to achieve with conventional material and/or device platforms, specifically the silicon-based 7 nm low-standby-power FinFET technology.

Background: Current treatment strategies for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are highly individualized and subject to ongoing debates. In the era of immunotherapy, surgery assumes a critical role. The aim of this study was to investigate if subsequent surgical intervention, following a favorable response to immunotherapy and chemotherapy, could yield a more favorable prognosis for patients with advanced stage III NSCLC compared to the continuation of immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

Lineage plasticity causes therapeutic resistance; however, it remains unclear how the fate conversion and phenotype switching of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are implicated in disease relapse. Here, we show that androgen deprivation therapy (ADT)-induced SPP1 myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs) are critical stromal constituents that drive the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Our results reveal that SPP1 myCAFs arise from the inflammatory CAFs in hormone-sensitive PCa; therefore, they represent two functional states of an otherwise ontogenically identical cell type.

ARID1A loss induces polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cell chemotaxis and promotes prostate cancer progression.

Chronic inflammation and an immunosuppressive microenvironment promote prostate cancer (PCa) progression and diminish the response to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapies. However, it remains unclear how and to what extent these two events are coordinated. Here, we show that ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex, functions downstream of inflammation-induced IKKβ activation to shape the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME).

Rebellious civil society and democratic consolidation in Lesotho.

J Soc Econ Dev

June 2022

Institute of Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences, Pan African University, Yaounde, Cameroon.

Civil society's efforts to push democratic transitions and deepen democracy are influenced by the political context in which they operate. This study examined the role of civil society in consolidating democracy in Lesotho. Specifically, it explored the tactics employed by the unions to defend human rights and deepen democratic practices.
