Background: Numerous genes are involved in immune system modulation, and their polymorphisms may contribute to developing autoimmune disorders. Genetic variation contributes significantly to disease susceptibility to autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD).

Objectives: This work aims to investigate the role of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of interferon induced with helicase C domain 1 (IFIH1) rs1990760 and glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) rs769404 in AITD development.

Co-Morbid Hypothyroidism and Liver Dysfunction: A Review.

Clin Med Insights Endocrinol Diabetes

February 2024

Department of Medicine & Therapeutics, University of Ghana Medical School, Accra, Ghana.

The liver and thyroid hormones interact at multiple levels to maintain homoeostasis. The liver requires large adequate amounts of thyroid hormones to execute its metabolic functions optimally, and deficiency of thyroid hormones may lead to liver dysfunction. Hypothyroidism has been associated with abnormal lipid metabolism, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), hypothyroidism-induced myopathy, hypothyroidism-associated gallstones and occasionally, interferon-induced thyroid dysfunction.

Numerous evidence showed that the occurrence and development of lung cancer is closely related to environmental pollution. Therefore, new environmental response predictive markers are urgently needed for early diagnosis and screening of lung cancer. Interferon-induced protein 44-like (IFI44L) has been shown to be related in a variety of tumors, but its function and mechanism during lung carcinogenesis still have remained largely unknown.

The Involvement of Insulin-Like Growth Factor 2 Messenger Ribonucleic Acid-Binding Protein 2 in the Regulation of the Expression of Breast Cancer-Related Genes.

Breast Cancer (Dove Med Press)

October 2022

State Key Laboratory of Pathogenes, Prevention and Treatment of High Incidence Diseases in Central Asia, Department of Breast and Thyroid Surgery, Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, Urumqi, People's Republic of China.

Aim: This study investigated the role and mechanism of insulin-like growth factor 2-IGF2BP2 in breast cancer.

Methods: IGF2BP2 is overexpressed in MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells. Thus, RNA sequencing was used to analyze the differentially expressed genes, Cell Counting Kit-8 was used to detect cell proliferation, and a Transwell assay was used to assess cell invasion.

Analysis of clinical characteristics of children with Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome in China.

World J Pediatr

July 2022

Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College, No. 1 Shuaifuyuan Wangfujing, Dongcheng District, Beijing, 100730, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome (AGS) is a challenging inflammatory disorder often leading to high mortality rates, with limited research data specifically from China, highlighting the need for better understanding its clinical presentation and diagnostic criteria.
  • - In a study of 23 Chinese AGS patients, the majority (82.6%) experienced symptoms before age 3, with common neurological issues and skin manifestations; notable findings included intellectual and language disabilities, and various dysfunctions such as liver and thyroid issues.
  • - Elevated expression of interferon-stimulated genes was observed, suggesting a systemic nature of AGS, with diagnosis recommended for early-onset patients showing specific symptoms, as exemplified by one recorded death in the study.
