A combination of photochemistry and proton coupled electron transfer (PCET) is a primary strategy employed by biochemical systems and synthetic chemistry to enable uphill reactions under mild conditions. Degenerate nanometer-sized n-type semiconductor nanoparticles (SCNPs) with the Fermi level above the bottom of the conduction band are strongly reducing and act more like metals than semiconductors. Application of the degenerate SCNPs is limited to few examples.

Evaluation of Co/SSZ-13 Zeolite Catalysts Prepared by Solid-Phase Reaction for NO-SCR by Methane.

ChemistryOpen

November 2020

Institute of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Research Centre for Natural Sciences, Magyar tudósok körútja 2, 1117, Budapest, Hungary.

Co/SSZ-13 zeolites were prepared by heating the finely dispersed mixture of NH-SSZ-13 and different cobalt salts up to 550 °C. Investigations by thermogravimetry - differential scanning calorimetry - mass spectrometry provided new insight into details of the solid-state reaction. Formation of Co carrying hydrate melt or volatile species was shown to proceed from chloride, nitrate, or acetylacetonate Co precursor salts upon thermal treatment.

Steam-Induced Coarsening of Single-Unit-Cell MFI Zeolite Nanosheets and Its Effect on External Surface Brønsted Acid Catalysis.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

June 2020

Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, University of Minnesota, 421 Washington Avenue SE, Minneapolis, MN, 55455, USA.

Commonly used methods to assess crystallinity, micro-/mesoporosity, Brønsted acid site density and distribution (in micro- vs. mesopores), and catalytic activity suggest nearly invariant structure and function for aluminosilicate zeolite MFI two-dimensional nanosheets before and after superheated steam treatment. Yet, pronounced reaction rate decrease for benzyl alcohol alkylation with mesitylene, a reaction that cannot take place in the zeolite micropores, is observed.

Syntheses, structures and chemical sensing properties of three complexes with mixed ligands of carboxylate and bipyridine.

Dalton Trans

February 2013

Materials and Thermochemistry Laboratory, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 457 Zhongshan Road, Dalian 116023, PR China.

Three mixed-ligand coordination polymers, [Cu(oda)(2,2'-bipy)](2) (1), Ni(2)(oda)(2)(4,4'-bipy)·DMF (2), and [{Ni(oda)(H(2)O)(2)}(2)(μ-4,4'-bipy)]·2H(2)O (3) were synthesized and characterized. Complex 1 features a 1D chain via intermolecular π-π interactions. Complex 2 is a novel 3D microporous coordination polymer with 1D polarized channels.

Polarized micropores in a novel 3D metal-organic framework for selective adsorption properties.

Inorg Chem

May 2012

Materials and Thermochemistry Laboratory, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 457 Zhongshan Road, Dalian 116023, People's Republic of China.

A novel 3D porous metal-organic framework with 1D polarized channels was synthesized, and its adsorption properties for gas separation and chemical sensing were studied. The framework shows a preferential adsorption of CO(2) over N(2) with a selectivity of 22:1. It also exhibits a very good sensitivity to water with respect to most of the organic solvents in view of chemical sensing applications.
