Using spectral methods (EPR, spectrophotometry), it was demonstrated that type II Cu2(+)-centers (so-called non-blue centers) are represented in human ceruloplasmin by two (but not one) stable forms which differ in their EPR spectra and absorption properties. Differential spectra were recorded, and the difference in the extinction coefficients of these forms was determined. Both forms were detected by the EPR method in blood sera from healthy and diseased individuals. The relative amount of these forms depends on the origin of the disease. This finding opens new perspectives in the diagnostic application of the EPR method. Spectrophotometric evidence of the ferroxidase activity of serum ceruloplasmin towards hemoglobin was obtained; other serum components were also shown to be involved in this process.

Here, a quenching strategy was developed to create oxygen vacancies in Cu doped α-MnO. The evolutions of oxygen vacancies were directly followed by means of XRD refinement, EPR and XPS. In combination with DFT calculations and detailed characterizations, evidence is captured that oxygen vacancies not only act as direct sites for the adsorption and activation of gaseous oxygen and toluene, but also accelerate the consumption and replenishment cycle of lattice oxygen species by weakening the strength of metal-oxygen bonds.

The continuous synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) has been actively studied due to its great potential to produce NPs with reproducible and controllable physicochemical properties. Here, we achieved the high throughput production of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) using a coaxial turbulent jet mixer with an added heating system. This device, designed for the crossflow of precursor solution and non-solvent, combined with the heating system, efficiently dissolves solid lipids and surfactants.

Fatigue Life Prediction of FRP-Strengthened Reinforced Concrete Beams Based on Soft Computing Techniques.

This paper establishes fatigue life prediction models using the soft computing method to address insufficient parameter consideration and limited computational accuracy in predicting the fatigue life of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthened concrete beams. Five different input forms were proposed by collecting 117 sets of fatigue test data of FRP-strengthened concrete beams from the existing literature and integrating the outcomes from Pearson correlation analysis and significance testing. Using Gene Expression Programming (GEP), the effects of various input configurations on the accuracy of model predictions were examined.
