Efficient circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) optical waveguides have significant potential for advancing photonic and optoelectronic devices. However, the development of CPL optical waveguides materials (OWMs) with low optical loss coefficient remains a considerable challenge. To overcome this, we design and synthesize CPL OWMs based on room-temperature phosphorescent liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs).

Afterglow luminescence provides ultrasensitive optical detection by minimizing tissue autofluorescence and increasing the signal-to-noise ratio. However, due to the lack of suitable unimolecular afterglow scaffolds, current afterglow agents are nanocomposites containing multiple components with limited afterglow performance and have rarely been applied for cancer theranostics. Herein, we report the synthesis of a series of oxathiine-containing donor-acceptor block semiconducting polymers (PDCDs) and the observation of their high photoreactivity and strong near-infrared (NIR) afterglow luminescence.

B,N-Embedded Helical Nanographenes Showing an Ion-Triggered Chiroptical Switching Function.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Intramolecular aromatic oxidative coupling of 3,6-bis(m-terphenyl-2'-yl)carbazole provided a bis(m-terphenyl)-fused carbazole, while that of 3,6-bis(m-terphenyl-2'-yl)-1,8-diphenylcarbazole afforded a bis(quaterphenyl)-fused carbazole. Borylation of the latter furnished a B,N-embedded helical nanographene binding a fluoride anion via a structural change from the three-coordinate boron to the four-coordinate boron. The anionic charge derived from the fluoride anion is stabilized over the expanded p-framework, which leads to the high binding constant (Ka) of 1 × 105 M-1.

Stretchable Thermochromic Fluorescent Fibers Based on Self-Crystallinity Phase Change for Smart Wearable Displays.

Polymers (Basel)

December 2024

Engineering Research Center of Technical Textiles, Ministry of Education, College of Textiles, Donghua University, Shanghai 201620, China.

Smart fibers with tunable luminescence properties, as a new form of visual output, present the potential to revolutionize personal living habits in the future and are receiving more and more attention. However, a huge challenge of smart fibers as wearable materials is their stretching capability for seamless integration with the human body. Herein, stretchable thermochromic fluorescent fibers are prepared based on self-crystallinity phase change, using elastic polyurethane (PU) as the fiber matrix, to meet the dynamic requirements of the human body.

A H2S-activated NIR-II imaging probe for precise diagnosis and pathological evaluation of colorectal tumor.

Theranostics

January 2025

Lab of Molecular Imaging and Translational Medicine (MITM), Engineering Research Center of Molecular and Neuro Imaging, Ministry of Education, School of Life Science and Technology, Xidian University & International Joint Research Center for Advanced Medical Imaging and Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment, Xi'an, Shaanxi, 710126, P. R. China.

The quick and accurate detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential for improving the treatment efficacy and patient survival, which nevertheless remains challenging due to low specificity and sensitivity of current CRC diagnostic approaches. Therefore, providing a robust solution for real-time and accurate tumor delineation is highly desirable. We report a novel polyacrylic acid-mediated strategy to develop the endogenous hydrogen sulfide (HS)-activated NIR-II probe DCNP@PB for specific visualization of CRC and image-guided tumor surgery.
