Objective: To investigate the effects of porcelain treatment techniques on the color change of feldspathic porcelain before and after exposure to distilled water, coffee, red wine, and cola and examine the surface texture of the porcelain with field-emission SEM.
Materials And Methods: Test specimens were prepared in the form of discs 15 mm in diameter by 2-mm thick and divided into four groups: Naturalglaze, dual-ion exchange, overglaze and polishing. The specimens were prepared according to their group and stored in red wine, coffee, and cola. After removal, the specimens were dipped in distilled water. Color measurements were made with a spectrophotometer, and color differences were determined using the CIE-LAB system. Statistical analysis was made with SPSS 13.5.
Results: Immersion time and types of surface treatment were significant factors for color stability (P < .01).

The impact of various biopolymers on low-sodium condiments composed of salt, potassium chloride, sodium glutamate and Maillard reaction products with chicken flavor were evaluated in order to generate uniformly distributed low-sodium condiments. The addition of biopolymers reduced the sodium and potassium content of low sodium condiments, as well as improved the particle size, changed the particle morphology. The addition of different biopolymers had different effects on the color, flow characteristics, solubility, hygroscopicity and thermal stability of low sodium condiments.

BACKGROUND Arterioportal fistulas (APFs) are abnormal connections between the arterial and portal venous systems, leading to portal hypertension (PH) and symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, splenomegaly, and hepatic pain. Symptoms typically appear by the age of 2 years in about 75% of cases. CASE REPORT A 7-year-old boy with an asymptomatic APF developed life-threatening complications following a Clostridium difficile infection.

This study aimed to develop eco-friendly multifunctional nanocellulose (NC) hybrid films with tailored properties for versatile applications including packaging and photovoltaics. Hybrid films composed by cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and carboxymethylated cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) were produced at various mass ratio (CNC - 100:0 to 0:100). Montmorillonite clay (MTM) was incorporated (50 % by mass) into the CNC:CNF films.

Composite polymers are promising solution to structural setbacks of starch and alginate-based films due to their hydrophilic attributes. Hence, this study aimed to investigate young coconut jelly powder (CJP), an under-utilized by-waste, as a filler using the casting method to develop a novel biocomposite from increments of CJP (1-3 %) to a blended resin of arrowroot starch, sodium alginate, and glycerol. Moreover, the films were characterized by physicomechanical (visual aspect, thickness, color, moisture content, tensile strength, and elongation at break); surface microstructure; water barrier (water vapor permeability, water solubility, and water activities); thermal, crystallinity, and functional group properties; soil, river water, and seawater biodegradability; and coating application in cherry tomato.

Unreasonable or illegal utilization of pesticides may lead to pollution of agricultural products, especially with some persistent but effective pesticides. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop sensitive and rapid methods for pesticide detection to ensure the safety of agricultural products. Herein, a dual-mode ratiometric sensing system utilizing two gold nanoclusters (G/R-AuNCs) was designed and constructed for paraquat (PQ) detection, a typical, highly toxic, widely used pesticide.
