This focused review explores the current literature on anesthetic care of pregnant patients requiring intracranial intervention. Neuropathology in pregnancy is rare, and existing evidence for management remains limited by the ethical complexities surrounding maternal and fetal research-related risks; pregnant women are typically excluded from randomized controlled trials. Physiological changes during pregnancy, combined with additional fetal considerations, alter pharmacodynamics and complicate the safety profile of maternal interventions.

Purpose: Although nurses frequently are responsible to care for and ensure safety of patients receiving epidural analgesia resources to guide them in this care are difficult to locate and not inclusive of all aspects of such care. The purpose of this manuscript is to provide a comprehensive resource to provide information for nurses when caring for patients receiving analgesia via an epidural catheter.

Methods: Literature and guidelines were reviewed to determine current standards of practice and guidance regarding care of patients receiving epidural analgesia.

Background: Pharmacological sedation and analgesia are used to alleviate discomfort during awake medical procedures but can cause adverse effects like apnea and hypoxemia, increasing the need for airway management and prolonging recovery. Virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce the need for procedural sedatives and analgesics.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, assessing the impact of VR immersion on intraprocedural sedation and analgesia usage in adults (≥ 18 years).

Background: Improvements in diagnostics and clinical care have allowed more women of childbearing age, suffering from neurological diseases, to safely have pregnancy, reducing peripartum complications. However, these patients remain at risk and are a constant challenge for anesthesiologists in the delivery room.

Methods: To assess the type of anesthesiologic management performed for delivery in obstetric patients with preexisting neurological disease and who reported significant neurological symptoms during pregnancy, a retrospective observational study was carried out between 1 October 2008 and 30 September 2021.
