ACS Food Sci Technol

January 2025

John Innes Centre, Norwich Research Park, Norwich NR4 7UH, U.K.

A world apart from academic research, the path from developing a polyphenol-rich crop to a product available to consumers is not one taken by many research scientists. Here we review the steps taken to commercialize anthocyanin-enriched purple tomatoes in the USA. In describing some of the difficulties encountered and the work that was necessary for a successful commercial launch of a new biotech product, we hope to encourage others to believe that there is a viable route to market, and an appetite for polyphenol-enriched foods that can protect health.

Background: The combination therapy of the B-Raf proto-oncogene (BRAF) inhibitor dabrafenib and the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) inhibitor Trametinib has shown favorable outcomes in patients initially identified with BRAF mutations. However, there are currently no large-scale study data focusing on the use of a triple therapy regimen of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) plus dabrafenib and trametinib in patients with newly concomitant BRAF mutations after acquiring resistance to EGFR-TKIs. Our study aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of the triple therapy regimen through a multi-center real-world experience.

More recently, market-driven approaches were introduced to incentivise producers to voluntarily engage in practices that align with management objectives and support regulations. For the first time, we compare government and voluntary approaches within fisheries management systems and quantify their relative influences on the sustainability status of fish populations.

Introduction: Obesity and its complications are associated with high morbidity/mortality and a significant healthcare cost burden in Spain. It is therefore essential to know the potential clinical and economic benefits of reducing obesity. The objective of this study is to predict the decrease in rates of onset of potential complications associated with obesity and the cost savings after a weight loss of 15% over 10 years in Spain.
