Thyroid tissue is sensitive to the effects of endocrine disrupting substances, and this represents a significant health concern. Histopathological analysis of tissue sections of the rat thyroid gland remains the gold standard for the evaluation for agrochemical effects on the thyroid. However, there is a high degree of variability in the appearance of the rat thyroid gland, and toxicologic pathologists often struggle to decide on and consistently apply a threshold for recording low-grade thyroid follicular hypertrophy.

As an important small molecule, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) plays an important role in the regulation of cell metabolism and supplies energy for various biochemical reactions in organisms. We herein developed a sensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) biosensor for highly specific detection of ATP using core-satellite assemblies. To construct the aptamer-based biosensor, a known ATP binding aptamer was divided into two segments.

Background: The prognosis of a plasma cell neoplasm (PCN) varies depending on the presence of genetic abnormalities. However, detecting sensitive genetic mutations poses challenges due to the heterogeneous nature of the cell population in bone marrow aspiration. The established gold standard for cell sorting is fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), which is associated with lengthy processing times, substantial cell quantities, and expensive equipment.

The current gold standard for the study of human movement is the marker-based motion capture system that offers high precision but constrained by costs and controlled environments. Markerless pose estimation systems emerge as ecological alternatives, allowing unobtrusive data acquisition in natural settings. This study compares the performance of two popular markerless systems, OpenPose (OP) and DeepLabCut (DLC), in assessing locomotion.

Bipolar disorder (BD) involves altered reward processing and decision-making, with inconsistencies across studies. Here, we integrated hierarchical Bayesian modelling with magnetoencephalography (MEG) to characterise maladaptive belief updating in this condition. First, we determined if previously reported increased learning rates in BD stem from a heightened expectation of environmental changes.
