Photoelectron imaging is finding increasingly widespread use in probing electronic structure and chemical dynamics. In this tutorial review, two benchmark systems, H(-) and I(-), are used to introduce essential concepts linking photoelectron images of negative ions with parent electronic structure. For pedagogical reasons, a qualitative approach based upon spectroscopic selection rules is emphasized in interpreting the images. This approach is extended to molecular systems, highlighting that even qualitative interpretation of results can lead to significant chemical insights.

Finding novel efficient nonlinear optical materials with large second-order nonlinearity for the UV spectral range remains a formidable challenge, especially for silicate systems. Using a high-temperature solid reaction in a tight vacuum environment, two ultraviolet nonlinear optical materials with a moderate second harmonic generation (SHG) response have been created: PbSiOC and PbCaSiO. The SHG values they computed are roughly 2.

Entropy engineering activation of UiO-66 for boosting catalytic transfer hydrogenation.

Nat Commun

State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, 130012, Changchun, P. R. China.

High-entropy metal-organic frameworks (HE-MOFs) hold promise as versatile materials, yet current rare examples are confined to low-valence elements in the fourth period, constraining their design and optimization for diverse applications. Here, a novel high-entropy, defect-rich and small-sized (32 nm) UiO-66 (ZrHfCeSnTi HE-UiO-66) has been synthesized for the first time, leveraging increased configurational entropy to achieve high tolerance to doping with diverse metal ions. The lattice distortion of HE-UiO-66 induces high exposure of metal nodes to create coordination unsaturated metal sites with a concentration of 322.

Twenty years of experience with lesions involving the temporomandibular joint and adjacent structures complex.

Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg

January 2025

Department of Oral Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China; Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology and Shanghai Research Institute of Stomatology, Shanghai, China; National Clinical Research Center of Stomatology, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

With their close anatomical relationship, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), mandibular ramus, skull base, ear, and infratemporal fossa make up a complex structure that may collectively be referred to as the 'TMJ and adjacent structures complex' (TASC). This study presents the neoplasms that may be encountered in the TASC region and their classification, which may be useful for the surgical treatment. Data of 1022 consecutive patients treated with resection of TASC neoplasms from May 2000 to October 2022 were reviewed.

Routes to molecular glue degrader discovery.

Trends Biochem Sci

January 2025

School of Life Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University, 201210 Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Molecular glue degraders (MGDs) represent a unique class of targeted protein degradation (TPD) modalities. By facilitating protein-protein interactions between E3 ubiquitin ligases and neo-substrates, MGDs offer a novel approach to target previously undruggable or insufficiently drugged disease-causing proteins. Here, we present an overview of recently reported MGDs, highlighting their diverse mechanisms, and we discuss mechanism-based strategies to discover new MGDs and neo-substrates.
