Optimizing Solid Microneedle Design: A Comprehensive ML-Augmented DOE Approach.

ACS Meas Sci Au

October 2024

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Koç University, Sariyer, Istanbul 34450, Turkiye.

Microneedles (MNs), that is, a matrix of micrometer-scale needles, have diverse applications in drug delivery, skincare therapy, and health monitoring. MNs offer a minimally invasive alternative to hypodermic needles, characterized by rapid and painless procedures, cost-effective fabrication methods, and reduced tissue damage. This study explores four MN designs, cone-shaped, tapered cone-shaped, pyramidal with a square base, and pyramidal with a triangular-shaped base, and their optimization based on predefined criteria.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using ChatGPT as programming support for nursing PhD students conducting analyses using the All of Us Researcher Workbench.

Materials And Methods: 9 students in a PhD-level nursing course were prospectively randomized into 2 groups who used ChatGPT for programming support on alternating assignments in the workbench. Students reported completion time, confidence, and qualitative reflections on barriers, resources used, and the learning process.

Turkey hen sperm storage tubule transcriptome response to artificial insemination and the presence of semen.

Front Physiol

January 2024

Animal Biosciences and Biotechnology Laboratory, Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Agricultural Research Service, United States Department of Agriculture, Beltsville, MD, United States.

Sperm storage within the uterovaginal junction (UVJ) of avian species occurs in specialized structures termed sperm storage tubules (SSTs) and allows for prolonged storage of semen, though the molecular mechanisms involved in semen preservation are not well understood. Little work has been done examining how function of the SSTs is impacted by insemination and by semen present in the SSTs. Transcriptome analysis was performed on isolated SSTs from turkey hens receiving no insemination (control), sham-insemination, or semen-insemination at three timepoints (D1, D30, and D90 post-insemination).

Fuzzy Algorithm Based Bionic Optimization Design of Boring Machine Column.

Comput Intell Neurosci

July 2022

School of Artificial Intelligence and Smart Manufacturing, Hechi University, Yizhou 546300, China.

A large-scale CNC boring machine would not be complete without a column. The tortoise shell is chosen as the bionic prototype, and the column structure is optimized using the bionic optimization design approach, using the column of a thg6920 boring machine as the research object. The structural similarity between the completed turtle shell and the boring machine column is 0.

Objectives: To develop and validate a standards-based phenotyping tool to author electronic health record (EHR)-based phenotype definitions and demonstrate execution of the definitions against heterogeneous clinical research data platforms.

Materials And Methods: We developed an open-source, standards-compliant phenotyping tool known as the PhEMA Workbench that enables a phenotype representation using the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and Clinical Quality Language (CQL) standards. We then demonstrated how this tool can be used to conduct EHR-based phenotyping, including phenotype authoring, execution, and validation.
