Given the association of mesonephric adenocarcinoma (MA) of the uterine cervix with florid mesonephric hyperplasia, one would expect MAs to rarely arise in other anatomical locations that harbor mesonephric remnants. In contrast, mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma (MLA) is thought to arise from Müllerian origin without an association with mesonephric remnants. The current case series characterizes 4 cases of MA arising in the urinary bladder (1 woman and 3 men), 1 case of MA in the perirenal region (woman), and 1 case of MLA in the ureter (woman).

Originally described over three hundred years ago, endometriosis is classically defined by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma in extrauterine locations. Endometriosis is an inflammatory, estrogen-dependent condition associated with pelvic pain and infertility. This work reviews the disease process from theories regarding origin to the molecular basis for disease sequelae.

This manuscript is a review of new ideas regarding the pathogenesis of peritoneal endometriosis, ovarian endometriosis, and retroperitoneal adenomyosis. Peritoneal endometriosis, the different aspects of which (black, red and white) represent distinctive steps in the evolutionary process, can be explained by the transplantation theory. Red lesions are the most active and most highly vascularized lesions and are considered to be the first stage of peritoneal endometriosis.

Objective: To compare histologically and stereologically the endometriotic nodule of the rectovaginal septum to peritoneal endometriosis.
Design: Morphometric investigation, cytokeratin and vimentin content, and steroid receptor evaluation were performed on endometriotic tissue from the peritoneum (n = 52) and rectovaginal nodules (n = 68).
Setting: An academic teaching hospital.
