A phenylethanoid-rich extract (ECD) of Cistanche deserticola Y.C. Ma, a holoparasitic plant and a valuable traditional Chinese medicine, was evaluated for antifatigue activity in ICR mice. ECD (0.25, 0.50, 1.00 g/kg) was administered orally to mice for 3 weeks. The swimming time to exhaustion was longer in the treatment groups (0.50, 1.00 g/kg) than in the control group (p < 0.01). The serum creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase and lactic acid levels were decreased significantly in the treatment groups compared with the control group, while the contents of hemoglobin and glucose were increased significantly. In conclusion, ECD appeared to enhance the swimming capacity of mice by decreasing muscle damage, delaying the accumulation of lactic acid and by improving the energy storage. These results provide scientific evidence for the traditional Chinese medical practice of C. deserticola.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Pseudostellaria heterophylla (Tài Zǐ Shēn, TZS) is a traditional Chinese medicine with spleen and qi benefits. Its immunomodulatory, anti-fatigue, anti-stress, and lipid metabolism regulation effects have been clinically confirmed, but its role in meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is still unclear.
Aim Of The Study: This study aims to investigate the effect and mechanism of action of TZS in treating MGD.

It has been well documented that a number of polysaccharides with potent free-radical scavenging capability possess notable anti-fatigue activity. Interestingly, recent evidence also suggested mixed polysaccharides derived from multiple sources may yield augmented bioactivities compared to the polysaccharides from a single source. Therefore, in the current study, we investigated the anti-oxidant and anti-fatigue activities of a blend of polysaccharides isolated from three mushrooms.

This comprehensive review explores the biological functions of seed proteins and peptides, highlighting their significant potential for health and therapeutic applications. This review delves into the mechanisms through which perilla peptides combat oxidative stress and protect cells from oxidative damage, encompassing free radical scavenging, metal chelating, in vivo antioxidant, and cytoprotective activities. Perilla peptides exhibit robust anti-aging properties by activating the Nrf2 pathway, enhancing cellular antioxidant capacity, and supporting skin health through the promotion of keratinocyte growth, maintenance of collagen integrity, and reduction in senescent cells.

Whey proteins have anti-fatigue activity, but there are few studies that have reported the ameliorative effects of branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) oligopeptides from whey proteins on fatigue in mice. The purposes of this study were to establish a process for the preparation of BCAA oligopeptides from whey protein and to investigate the anti-fatigue activity of BCAA oligopeptides. Whey proteins were hydrolyzed by trypsin and flavourzyme and purified by ethanol precipitation and reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC).

This study aimed to investigate the anti-fatigue efficacy and underlying mechanisms of Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua polysaccharide (PCP) in chronic sleep-deprived mice. Following three weeks of oral administration, PCP demonstrated significant efficacy in alleviating fatigue symptoms. This was evidenced by the prolonged swimming and rotarod time in the high-dose group of PCP, which increased by 73 % and 64 %, respectively.
