The cell bodies of relay neurons in the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus of the rat achieve their adult size 16 days after birth, the greatest increases occuring between days 4-6 and days 14-15. Perikarya of intrinsic neurons continue to grow up to at least day 20. Perikaryal growth and the growth and maturation of the dendritic tree of relay neurons are synchronous.
