The eight-nickel-capped polyoxoazonickelate, [Ni(20)(OH)(24)(MMT)(12)(SO(4))](NO(3))(2).6H(2)O (1; MMT = 2-mercapto-5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole), has been synthesized, which has an alpha-Keggin structure with eight nickel caps. In this structure, the polyatom is the late transition metal Ni(II); the central heteroatom is S, and the organic terminal ligand becomes the primary part of the Keggin structure. This is a Keplerate-type cluster, which shows a central Ni(II)(12) cuboctahedron formed by the 12 Ni(II) centers of the classical alpha-Keggin core and a Ni(II)(8) hexahedron formed by the eight nickel caps.

Nickel and palladium complexes bearing "sandwich" diimine ligands with perfluorinated aryl caps have been synthesized, characterized, and explored in ethylene polymerization reactions. The X-ray crystallographic analysis of the precatalysts and shows differences from their nonfluorinated analogues and , with the perfluorinated aryl caps centered precisely over the nickel and palladium centers, which results in higher buried volumes of the metal centers relative to the nonfluorinated analogues. The sandwich diimine-palladium complexes and containing perfluorinated aryl caps polymerize ethylene in a controlled fashion with activities that are substantially increased compared with their nonfluorinated analogues.

In this study, a novel split-type electrochemical immunosensor based on controlled release strategy was proposed for sensitive analysis and detection of tumor marker carbohydrate antigen 199 (CA19-9). The orientation behavior and the translational dynamics of spherical magnetic silica-nickel Janus colloids in an external magnetic field have been studied by small-angle X-ray scattering and X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy at ultra small-angles. For weak applied fields and at low volume fractions, the particle dynamics is dominated by Brownian motion even though the net magnetic moments of the individual particles are aligned in the direction of the field as indicated by the anisotropy in the small-angle scattering patterns. For higher fields the magnetic forces result in more complex structural changes with nickel caps of Janus particles pointing predominantly along the applied magnetic field.

This paper investigates the absorption spectra of a plasmonic metamaterial absorber in the visible and near-infrared regimes by utilizing a metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) functional stack. A periodic metal-dielectric cap is introduced on top of a metallic substrate to excite surface plasmon modes. The shape of this cap and the glass coating modifies the absorbance bandwidth.
