Roaming reactions involving a neutral fragment of a molecule that transiently wanders around another fragment before forming a new bond are intriguing and peculiar pathways for molecular rearrangement. Such reactions can occur for example upon double ionization of small organic molecules, and have recently sparked much scientific interest. We have studied the dynamics of the [Formula: see text]-roaming reaction leading to the formation of [Formula: see text] after two-photon double ionization of ethanol and 2-aminoethanol, using an XUV-UV pump-probe scheme.

Heat and Cold Shocks Decrease the Incidence of Diapause in Larvae.

Insects

January 2025

Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, Universitetskaya 1, 199034 St. Petersburg, Russia.

Insect diapause and response to thermal stress are similar in the variety of manifestations. However, the influence of thermal shocks on the incidence of insect diapause has not been sufficiently studied. Our laboratory experiments showed that both cold (-10 °C) and heat (43 °C) shocks experienced for at least 20-30 min significantly reduced the incidence of facultative larval winter diapause in the insect egg parasitoid .

This case report highlights the use of continuous infusion of meropenem in a 42-year-old septic female patient with periprosthetic infection and end-stage renal disease receiving prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy (PIRRT). Antibiotic infusion in patients receiving renal replacement therapy has its own peculiarities. There are many studies on the optimal dosing regimen for meropenem in renal dysfunction, but studies on the optimal infusion duration in these patients are limited.

Genomic Rewilding of Domestic Animals: The Role of Hybridization and Selection in Wolfdog Breeds.

Genes (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Animal Science and Food Processing, Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Kamýcká 129, 16500 Prague, Czech Republic.

: The domestication of the grey wolf () and subsequent creation of modern dog breeds have significantly shaped the genetic landscape of domestic canines. This study investigates the genomic effects of hybridization and breeding management practices in two hybrid wolfdog breeds: the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog (CSW) and the Saarloos Wolfdog (SAW). : We analyzed the genomes of 46 CSWs and 20 SAWs, comparing them to 12 German Shepherds (GSHs) and 20 wolves (WLFs), which served as their ancestral populations approximately 70-90 years ago.
