Recently, multisite models used for the refinement of neutron diffraction data have suggested that the structure of ice VII is quite unlike that of its ordered counterpart, ice VIII. We investigate the oxygen site disorder by modeling the site displacement, obtained from periodic DFT calculations, as a function of the local hydrogen bond network. Then, using graph invariants to describe hydrogen bond fluctuations in the thermodynamic limit, we perform statistical mechanical calculations using the oxygen site displacement model developed here. We find that the probability distribution of the oxygen atom about its perfect lattice site more closely resembles the 100 model rather than the recently suggested 111 model, although both models represent a simplification of the actual site distribution. We also find a unimodel distribution for the hydrogen bonded oxygen-oxygen distance and a trimodel distribution for the nearest nonbonded oxygen-oxygen distance with a peak separation of approximately 0.1 A.

Tryptophan participates in important life activities and is involved in various metabolic processes. The indole and aromatic binuclear ring structure in tryptophan can engage in diverse interactions, including π-π, π-alkyl, hydrogen bonding, cation-π, and CH-π interactions with other side chains and protein targets. These interactions offer extensive opportunities for drug development.

Influence of CTAB Reverse Micellar Confinement on the Tetrahedral Structure of Liquid Water.

The effect of confinement on the tetrahedral ordering of liquid water plays a vital role in controlling their microscopic structure and dynamics as well as their spectroscopic properties. In this article, we have performed the classical molecular dynamics simulations of four different CTAB/water/chloroform reverse micelles with varied water content to study how the tetrahedral ordering of nanoscale water inside reverse micellar confinement influences the microscopic dynamics and the structural relaxation of water···water hydrogen bonds and its impact on the low-frequency intermolecular vibrational bands. We have noticed from the results obtained from simulated trajectories the lowering trends of tetrahedral ordering of water pools in reverse micellar confinements as we move from bulk to confined and strictly confined environments.

Introduction: In response to continued public health emergency of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a significant key strategy is the discovery of novel mycobacterial efflux-pump inhibitors (EPIs) as potential adjuvants in combination drug therapy. Interest in identifying new chemotypes which could potentially synergize with the existing antibiotics and can be deployed as part of a combination therapy. This strategy could delay the emergence of resistance to existing antibiotics and increase their efficacy against resistant strains of mycobacterial species.

Proton-electron mixed conductors (PEMCs) are an essential component for potential applications in hydrogen separation and energy conversion devices. However, the exploration of PEMCs with excellent mixed conduction, which is quantified by the ambipolar conductivity, σ = σσ/(σ + σ) (σ: electronic conductivity; σ: proton conductivity), is still a great challenge, largely due to the lack of structural characterization of both conducting mechanisms. In this study, we prepared a molecule-based proton-electron mixed-conducting cation radical salt, (ET)[Pt(pop)(Hpop)]·PhCN (ET: bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene, pop: PHO), by electrocrystallization.

Background: Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 (ERK1) belongs to mitogen-activated protein kinases, which are essential for memory formation, cognitive function, and synaptic plasticity. During Alzheimer's disease (AD), ERK1 phosphorylates tau at 15 phosphorylation sites, leading to the formation of neurofibrillary tangles. The overactivation of ERK1 in microglia promotes the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which results in neuroinflammation.
