Performance of Recycled Opaque PET Modified by Reactive Extrusion.

Polymers (Basel)

October 2024

Departament de Ciència i Enginyeria de Materials, Escola d'Enginyeria de Barcelona Est (EEBE), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya-BarcelonaTech (UPC), 08019 Barcelona, Spain.

A comparative study of the structural integrity of an opaque recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) (rPET-O) has been carried out with two types of modified rPET-O by applying reactive extrusion techniques, namely (a) using a multi-epoxide reactive agent (REx-rPET-O) and (b) a 90/10 (wt/wt) rPET-O/polycarbonate (PC) blend. The chemical modifications introduced during reactive extrusion were confirmed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheological dynamic analysis (RDA). For the quantification of the fracture parameters, an instrumented pendulum impact testing machine was used using specimens in SENB configuration.

Magnetic energy is an abundant and persistent form of energy radiating from various sources. Here, a hybrid triboelectric-electromagnetic magnetic energy harvester (HMEH) system consisting of a modified pendulum unit is proposed, interacting mechanically with two multilayered TENGs and remotely with Cu coils. Systematic studies are conducted on magneto-mechano-energy conversion from power transmission lines.

Acute axillary lymphadenopathy detected shortly after COVID-19 vaccination found to be due to newly diagnosed metastatic melanoma.

Radiol Case Rep

March 2022

The Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, 600 North Wolfe Street, Radiology Room 118, 21287 Baltimore, MD, USA.

As the administration of COVID-19 vaccines continues to increase, so too does awareness of the associated ipsilateral axillary lymphadenopathy. This has created a diagnostic challenge in the field of radiology, in particular among patients with cancer, as post-vaccination reactive adenopathy has been reported to be mistakenly interpreted as malignancy. As radiology departments improve their protocols for obtaining vaccine-related patient history, and radiologists become acclimated to attributing axillary lymphadenopathy to recent COVID-19 vaccination, there is a risk of the pendulum swinging too far and under-diagnosing true oncologic disease.

Automatic magnetic projection for one-step separation of mixed plastics using ring magnets.

Sci Total Environ

September 2021

State Key Lab of Fluid Power Transmission and Control, School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China; Key Laboratory of 3D Printing Process and Equipment of Zhejiang Province, School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China; Jiangsu Jianghuai Magnetic Industry Co., Ltd., Xuyi 211700, China. Electronic address:

Magnetic projection, a novel separation method proposed recently, can separate multiple mixed materials in an efficient and low-cost way. Although promising, existing magnetic projection method cannot achieve the automatic feeding of mixed materials, which limits its applications. To address this challenge, ring magnets were used to replace conventional square magnets in this research.

Background/aims: Despite the use of conventional mouthguards, preventable sports-related dental injuries continue to occur. The authors have developed a two-layered ethylene polyvinyl acetate (EVA) mouthguard with a hard polyethylene terephthalate (PET) insert and a buffer space (H&SMG). However, adapting the PET onto the EVA layer requires skill.
