Background: With a rapidly aging population, South Korea anticipates a surge in Alzheimer disease (AD). However, the genetic basis of AD in Koreans is not well understood.

Method: We sequenced the genomes of 3,540 Koreans (1,583 AD cases and 1,957 controls) older than age 60 and performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of AD using logistic regression models that included covariates for age, sex, five ancestry principal components, and an empirical genetic relationship matrix.

The substance-exposed birthing person-infant/child dyad and health information exchange in the United States.

J Am Med Inform Assoc

January 2025

Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, United States Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, DC 20201, United States.

Objective: Timely access to data is needed to improve care for substance-exposed birthing persons and their infants, a significant public health problem in the United States. We examined the current state of birthing person and infant/child (dyad) data-sharing capabilities supported by health information exchange (HIE) standards and HIE network capabilities for data exchange to inform point-of-care needs assessment for the substance-exposed dyad.

Material And Methods: A cross-map analysis was performed using a set of dyadic data elements focused on pediatric development and longitudinal supportive care for substance-exposed dyads (70 birthing person and 110 infant/child elements).

Blood Culture Contamination and Diagnostic Stewardship: From a Clinical Laboratory Quality Monitor to a National Patient Safety Measure.

J Appl Lab Med

January 2025

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of Laboratory Systems and Response (OLSR), Divsion of Laboratory Systems (DLS), Atlanta, GA, United States.

Laboratory analysis of blood cultures is vital to the accurate and timely diagnosis of bloodstream infections. However, the reliability of the test depends on clinical compliance with standard operating procedures that limit the risk of inconclusive or incorrect results. False-negative blood culture results due to inadequate volumes of blood can result in misdiagnosis, delay therapy, and increase patients' risk of developing or dying from bloodstream infections.

Introduction: Without disease-modifying interventions, Medicare and Medicaid spending on Alzheimer's disease (AD) management is expected to reach 637 billion USD annually by 2050. The recent advent of promising AD therapies after decades of a near-total failure rate in clinical trials suggests that more disease-modifying therapies are on the horizon. In this review, we assess the late-stage pipeline of disease-modifying candidates for AD and offer a novel classification of intervention candidates by treatment paradigms-groups of candidates that share an underlying biological mechanism of action and general disease target.

Objective: To evaluate the completeness and quality of Medicaid comprehensive managed care (CMC) data in national MAX/TAF research files.

Study Setting And Design: This observational study compared CMC with fee-for-service (FFS) enrollee data in 2001-2019 Medicaid MAX/TAF inpatient, outpatient, and pharmacy files. Completeness was assessed as the proportion of enrollees with any claim and mean claims per enrollee with any claim.
