Fluorescent protein-based biosensors are indispensable molecular tools in cell biology and biomedical research, providing non-invasive dynamic measurements of metabolite concentrations and other cellular signals. Traditional methods for developing these biosensors rely on rational design, but directed evolution methods offer a more efficient alternative. This review discusses recent advancements in the development of biosensors using directed evolution, including methods for optimizing domain fusions, sequence optimization, and new screening and selection systems.

Minoritized groups experience interpersonal, structural, and systemic marginalization that is also perpetuated within academic institutions. This marginalization produces barriers that exclude racial/ethnic minoritized groups within academic medicine from career opportunities and advancement. Racial/ethnic minoritized faculty are often expected to take on additional labor to serve the diversity needs of the program and/or institution that are often unrecognized or undervalued in the tenure or promotion process or detract from additional responsibilities.

Oral mucositis (OM) is a common side effect of radiation therapy for head and neck cancer (HNC). Despite the medical advances in cancer therapy, OM is still virtually inevitable in patients being irradiated for neoplasms of the head and neck. The initial signs of oral mucositis typically manifest after cumulative doses between 15 and 20 Gy, with ulceration formation by 30 Gy and reaching peak severity in the week after radiation treatment completion (generally 60-72 Gy in management of HNC), then resolving over the 3-4 weeks following treatment completion.

The pervasive occurrence of various organic contaminants, primarily dye molecules, in water bodies was caused by multiple dye industrial wastes, which recently sparked great scientific concern and public awareness due to their potential to spread these contaminants' resistant genes and pose a risk to humans. Cross-linking graphene in chitosan resulted in nanocomposites in varied morphology, increased surface area, and considerably improved photocatalytic removal of bromothymol blue and bromophenol blue. The degradation capacity of photocatalysts at various concentrations (25 and 50 mg) was 96.

Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic pruritic inflammatory skin condition characterized by nodular skin lesions in a typical distribution pattern caused by various dermatological and/or non-dermatological conditions. In recent years, significant advances have been made in the understanding of the cutaneous pathophysiology of PN resulting in novel treatment options such as Interleukin-4, -13, -17, -31- or Januskinase inhibitors. However, many aspects of the neurophysiology are largely unknown, including the processing in the central structural and functional network involved in PN.
