It has been shown that the treatment of bean seedlings with a water extract of Reynoutria sachalinensis increases visible photosynthesis and the activity of dark respiration of plants. The increase in CO2-uptake under relatively high light illumination (10000 1x) correlates with an increase in the fluorescence parameter (F(M) - F(T))/F(T).

The Russian Far East is a region of unique biodiversity, with numerous plant species, including and . These plants are considered a serious threat to biodiversity and are classified as threatened species. However, plants synthesize and accumulate a variety of metabolites that are valued for their positive effects on human health.

Article Synopsis
  • Knotweed plants (Reynoutria sp.) are typically recognized as invasive species but have beneficial secondary metabolites in their rhizomes and leaves.
  • The study aimed to identify which of three knotweed species—Reynoutria japonica, Reynoutria × bohemica, and Reynoutria sachalinensis—best enhances wheat seed growth.
  • Results indicated that all knotweed extracts improved wheat germination and growth, with R. × bohemica showing the most significant benefits in seedling vigor and various growth metrics.

Biotrophic phytopathogenic fungi such as have evolved sophisticated mechanisms to adapt to various environments causing powdery mildews leading to substantial yield losses. Today, due to known adverse effects of pesticides, development of alternative control means is crucial and can be achieved by combining plant protection products with resistant genotypes. Using plant defense inducers, natural molecules that stimulate plant immune system mimicking pathogen attack is sustainable, but information about their mode of action in different hosts or host genotypes is extremely limited.

Riparian woody plant communities, including shrubs and trees, are essential for maintaining biodiversity, protecting against floods, reducing erosion, and transporting nutrients. However, these habitats are greatly threatened by human activities, particularly agricultural land acquisition, and the introduction of invasive species. This study examined species diversity and interspecific association in riparian woody plant communities along rivers in the Romanian Carpathians.

Vanicosides A and B isolated from Reynoutria sachalinensis rhizomes are disaccharide phenylpropanoid esters with proven antioxidant activity. Our earlier study showed the cytotoxic activity of vanicosides against melanoma cells, but the mechanism of cell death has not been elucidated. Based on the chemical structure of vanicosides, we proposed that they may induce cell death by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) into melanoma cells.
