Hypoxia Combined With Interleukin-17 Regulates Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α/Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase Expression in Pulmonary Artery Endothelial Cells.

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Beijing Institute of Respiratory Medicine and Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

The pathogenesis of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension may be multifactorial and requires further studies. We explored alterations in pulmonary artery endothelial cells under the hypoxic and elevated interleukin-17 conditions that are commonly present in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. We measured the serum interleukin-17 levels in 10 chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients and 10 healthy control persons.

Due to the continuous exposure to bisphenol-A (BPA), the current study was conducted to evaluate taurine's neuroprotective action against BPA's adverse effect on the brain. Rats were grouped into control, BPA-treated rats, and taurine + BPA-treated rats. At the end of the 35-day treatment period, the memory of the rats was evaluated using the novel object test and the Y-maze test.

Contemporary anticancer drugs are often accompanied by varying degrees of cardiovascular toxicity, with hypertension emerging as one of the most prevalent side effects, particularly linked to inhibitors of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Hypertension induced by cancer therapies contributes to increased cardiovascular mortality in cancer patients and survivors. Given the shared common risk factors and overlapping pathophysiological mechanisms, hypertension is also a prevalent comorbidity in this patient population.

Objectives: To evaluate the protective effect of cystatin (r-Cystatin) in a mouse mode of "two-hit" sepsis.

Methods: Sixty male C57BL/6 mice randomized equally into sham-operated group, protein group, "two-hit" modeling group, and protein intervention group. In the former two groups, the mice received an intraperitoneal injection of 100 μL PBS followed by exposure of the cecum and then by intraperitoneal injection of 100 μL PBS or 25 μg r-Cystatin 30 min later; In the latter two groups, 100 μL PBS containing LPS (5 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally 24 h before cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), and 100 μL PBS or 25 μg r-Cystatin were injected 30 min after CLP.

Objectives: To investigate the effect of high glucose on macrophage polarization and the role of immune-responsive gene 1 (IRG1) in mediating its effect.

Methods: RAW264.7 cells were transfected with IRG1-overexpressing plasmid or IRG1 siRNA via electroporation and cultured in either normal or high glucose for 72 h to observe the changes in cell viability and morphology using CCK-8 assay and phase contrast microscopy.
