We report a second catalytic activity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa arylsulfatase (PAS). Besides hydrolyzing sulfate monoesters, this enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphate monoesters with multiple turnovers (>90), a k(cat) value of 0.023 s(-1), a K(M) value of 29 microM, and a kcat/K(M) ratio of 790 M(-1) s(-1) at pH 8.0. This corresponds to a remarkably high rate acceleration of 10(13) relative to the nonenzymatic hydrolysis [(k(cat)/K(M))/k(w)] and a transition-state binding constant (K(tx)) of 3.4 pM. Promiscuous phosphatase and original sulfatase activities only differ by a factor of 620 (measured by k(cat)), so the enzyme provides high accelerations for both reactions. The magnitudes and relative similarity of the kinetic parameters suggest that a functional switch from sulfatase to phosphatase activities is feasible, either by gene duplication or by direct evolution via an intermediate enzyme with dual specificity.

This study is the application of a recurrent neural networks with Bayesian regularization optimizer (RNNs-BRO) to analyze the effect of various physical parameters on fluid velocity, temperature, and mass concentration profiles in the Darcy-Forchheimer flow of propylene glycol mixed with carbon nanotubes model across a stretched cylinder. This model has significant applications in thermal systems such as in heat exchangers, chemical processing, and medical cooling devices. The data-set of the proposed model has been generated with variation of various parameters such as, curvature parameter, inertia coefficient, Hartmann number, porosity parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number, radiation parameter, activation energy variable, Schmidt number and reaction rate parameter for different scenarios.

By employing the stabilizer in the supersonic gas nozzle to produce the plasma density profile with a sharp downramp, we have experimentally demonstrated highly stable electron beam acceleration based on the shock injection mechanism in laser wakefield acceleration with the use of a compact Ti:sapphire laser. A quasi-monoenergetic electron beam with a peak energy of 315 MeV ± 12.5 MeV per shot is generated.

Polylactic acid (PLA) is a bio-recyclable plastic, but its high flammability limits broader applications. Here, a novel flame retardant (Zn-CHP) is synthesized from chitosan (CH), diethylenetriaminepenta (methylenephosphonic) acid (DTPMP), and ZnCl₂ using a simple, solvent-free process. The Zn-CHP additive is melt-blended with PLA, achieving excellent flame retardancy at just 2 wt% loading.

This work examined the effects of molecular weight (2-15 kDa) and concentration (10-30 mg/mL) of chitosan (CTS) on the binding capacity and interface behavior between octenyl succinic acid sodium starch (OSS) and CTS, as well as their effects on the storage stability of emulsions. The results of the isothermal calorimetry titration demonstrated that OSS and CTS were complexed by electrostatic interaction and spontaneous hydrogen bonding driven by enthalpy (ΔH from -3931 to -7983 cal/mol, ΔS from -38.5 to -49.
