Patients taking bisphosphonate drug therapy have demonstrated extremely poor alveolar bone healing after relatively minor oral surgical procedures. It would seem logical that extraction sockets could remain visible radiographically for an extended period after surgery, even in cases with soft tissue healing. This article chronicles the case of a patient who had been taking zoledronic acid chronically for metastatic cancer and who demonstrated numerous residual sockets (also known as ghost sockets), with lamina dura outlines that were visible radiographically.

Materials And Methods: In the present multi-center single-blind randomized control trial, 55 patients underwent 1-tooth extraction, were surveyed, and randomly allocated to control- (25 sites, nat-group) or test groups (15 sites grafted with pre-hydrated collagenated cortico-cancellous porcine bone, coll-group, and 15 with cortical porcine bone, cort-group).

Metastatic renal carcinoma is the third most common source of ocular and second most common source of orbital metastases. This is the first published case of von Hippel-Lindau (vHL) disease that developed renal cell carcinoma metastatic to an eye with a retinal hemangioblastoma. A 73-year-old woman had a history of vHL disease that included prior retinal hemangioblastomas, 2 cerebellar hemangioblastomas, and bilateral renal cell carcinomas with sacral metastasis.

The purpose of this study was to investigate a case of calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) in which numerous calcifications were observed not only in the lining epithelium, but also in the cyst wall, using cytokeratins 13 (CK13), 19 (CK19), and core binding factor a-1 (cbfa-1) as primary antibodies. Cells of Malassez's epithelial rest were stained as controls. Cells of the epithelial nests in the cyst wall were reactive for CK13, but their CK19 staining was similar to that observed in the lining epithelial cells.
