The regulation of medication advertising in Brazil has four weak points. Inspection and punishment of irregularities is carried out a posteriori to the infraction being committed (when the population has already been exposed to a sanitary risk). The fines charged by the Brazilian Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) have a derisory value compared to investments in advertising. There is no mechanism that prevents fines from being transferred to prices. The phrase 'If symptoms persist, consult your doctor', rather than warning about the risks of self-medication, encourages using at least the first medication without a prescription, advising a visit to the doctor only if symptoms persist. Anvisa data and academic studies reveal that 90% to 100% of advertising shown in the media contains irregularities. Thus, the Anvisa Collegiate Board of Directors Resolution 102/2000, which seeks to regulate the sector, makes up a system that benefits the infractor and keeps the population at risk. This work analyses alternative regulation, looking at advertising's previous compliance statute through the surveillance system; it studies international statutes and proposes an alteration in the structure of the current model, inserting the logic of sanitary risk prevention.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a long-standing public health issue with increasing incidence in recent years even though most STIs can be effectively treated or even cured with inexpensive medications. In this manuscript, we discuss factors that contribute with this concerning scenario, including modifications in the model of STI care in the United States; barriers for diagnosis and treatment; and scarcity of targeted STI prevention messages. We then describe the approach adopted by AIDS Healthcare Foundation to mitigate STI trends, with a focus on sexual health Wellness Centers.

Purpose Of Review: In the alcohol research literature, many studies demonstrate the impact of advertisements, outlet density, and perceived norms on attitudes and behaviors. Now that Washington State has exceeded 11 years of legal cannabis for non-medical purposes, building upon the existing evidence base with alcohol, we can examine what contributes to perceived harm and availability with cannabis in a legal context and begin to explore opportunities for future research.
Recent Findings: In this commentary, we consider how cannabis with high THC concentration is viewed, explore trends surrounding impaired driving, discuss loopholes in legislation that have allowed for the emergence of synthetic cannabinoids, and examine pandemic-related decisions made by lawmakers related to cannabis use.

Issues: Tobacco retailing remains highly prevalent in Australia and so represents a potential source of exposure to tobacco marketing for children, despite national laws that restrict tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship. This study sought to answer the question of how comprehensively the current Australian regulatory framework protects children from potential exposure to tobacco marketing in retail settings.
Approach: We reviewed and summarised Australian tobacco control laws (federal, state and territory) for provisions related to protecting children from supply or advertising/promotion of tobacco products in retail settings.

Background: Clinical guidelines recommend that people with chronic non-specific neck pain self-manage symptoms with physiotherapy-led exercise. However, current exercise strategies have modest short-term effects, engagement is poor, and 48% of people continue to experience long-term and recurrent pain. Updated exercise strategies co-produced using complex intervention development frameworks are required that consider the behavioural, psychological, environmental, and technical aspects of exercise prescription and patient adherence to optimise symptom outcomes, long-term engagement, and self-management.

Background: Conducting research within a carceral health care context offers a unique view into the nature of drug use among arrestees with potential to identify and prevent drug use consequences. The purpose of this study was to characterize the nature and extent of drug use among first-time jail arrestees to inform detection and treatment.
Methods: This study utilized a naturalistic research design to collect de-identified urine drug screens (UDS), jail characteristics, and arrestee demographic variables among arrestees indicating drug use from 25 jails across the United States in 2023 through a confidential data sharing agreement with NaphCare, Inc.
