The use of holographic structures is promising for the realization of efficient systems in backlight applications for displays. By applying surface relief gratings on top of a side-lit lightguide we realize a backlight that avoids the use of color filters. The grating is used as a light outcoupling and color-separating element. The demands for this grating are stringent and calculations have been performed to meet them. A prototype backlight, including the grating structure, has been assembled and characterized. Results of experiments are discussed.

Significance: Imaging flow cytometry allows highly informative multi-point cell analysis for biological assays and medical diagnosis. Rapid processing of the imaged cells during flow allows real-time classification and sorting of the cells. Off-axis holography enables imaging flow cytometry without chemical cell staining but requires digital processing to the optical path delay profile for each frame before the cells can be classified, which slows down the overall processing throughput.

Monitoring the parameters and behavior of plankton makes it possible to assess the state of the aquatic ecosystem and detect the beginning of an environmental disaster at an early stage. In this respect, the most informative method for the in situ plankton study is underwater digital holography. This method allows obtaining information on the size, shape, and location of plankton individuals, as well as performing their classification and biotesting according to their behavioral responses using a submersible holographic camera non-invasively, in real time, and in the automatic mode.

Inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) is a polymer that consists of a series of orthophosphates connected by high-energy phosphoanhydride bonds, like those found in ATP. In mammalian mitochondria, polyP has been linked to the activation of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). However, the details of this process are not completely understood.

A core dielectric cylindrical rod wrapped in a dielectric circular pipe whose outer surface is enclosed by a helical conducting strip grating that is skewed along the axial direction is herein analyzed using the asymptotic strip boundary conditions along with classical vector potential analysis. Targeted for use as a cylindrical holographic antenna, the resultant field solutions facilitate the aperture integration of the equivalent cylindrical surface currents to obtain the radiated far fields. As each rod section of a certain skew angle exhibits a distinct modal attribute; this topology allows for the distribution of the cylindrical surface impedance via the effective refractive index to be modulated, as in gradient-index (GRIN) materials.

We present the Quantum Memory Matrix (QMM) hypothesis, which addresses the longstanding Black Hole Information Paradox rooted in the apparent conflict between Quantum Mechanics (QM) and General Relativity (GR). This paradox raises the question of how information is preserved during black hole formation and evaporation, given that Hawking radiation appears to result in information loss, challenging unitarity in quantum mechanics. The QMM hypothesis proposes that space-time itself acts as a dynamic quantum information reservoir, with quantum imprints encoding information about quantum states and interactions directly into the fabric of space-time at the Planck scale.
