Background: High mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein has been identified as a novel pro-inflammatory cytokine in coronary artery disease (CAD). We investigated the relationship between serum HMGB1 level and the severity of coronary artery stenosis.
Methods: Serum HMGB1 concentration in patients was measured by ELISA. All patients underwent coronary angiography and were assigned into groups according to the quartile of HMGB1 level.
Results: HMGB1 level in USAP group was higher than that in control and SAP group. HMGB1 level in SAP group was higher than that in control group (p<0.05). Gensini scores in the highest quartile group (group IV), group III and group II were all significantly higher than that in the lowest quartile group (group I). There was significant correlation between angiographic Gensini score and serum level of HMGB1 (r=0.710, p<0.05). However, in subgroup analysis, we found that serum HMGB1 level was only correlated with angiographic Gensini score in SAP patients (r=0.786, p<0.05), but not USAP patients.
Conclusions: Serum HMGB1 level was markedly increased with the severity of coronary artery stenosis in patients with SAP and USAP, especially in SAP patients, which suggested that increased serum HMGB1 may involve in the pathogenesis of atherosclerotic CAD.

Background: The expression of anti-programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) in tumors is widely used as a biomarker to predict the therapeutic efficacy of anti-programmed cell death-1(PD-1)/PD-L1 antibodies. However, the predictive accuracy of this method is limited. High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is known to modulate cancer immunity.

Rationale: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a clinical syndrome associated with a multitude of conditions. Although renal replacement therapy (RRT) remains the cornerstone of treatment for advanced AKI, its implementation can potentially pose risks and may not be readily accessible across all healthcare settings and regions. Elevated lactate levels are implicated in sepsis-induced AKI; however, it remains unclear whether increased lactate directly induces AKI or elucidates the underlying mechanisms.

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) have found it be associated with drug resistance in epilepsy. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of SCN1A gene polymorphism in developing drug resistance in idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) patients, along with increased oxidative stress. The study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Delhi, India.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic disease characterized by hepatocyte steatosis, which excludes alcohol, drugs and other definite liver damage-related factors. It has been reported that OTUB1 serves a significant role in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism. The present study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying the effect of OTUB1 on regulating NAFLD.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is implicated in the pathogenesis of silicosis. High mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) has been found to induce EMT in fibrotic diseases. Previous studies have revealed a critical role of HMGB1 in silicosis, whereas the detail mechanisms still obscure.
