Recent advances in computer and information technologies have allowed the integration of both numeric and non-numeric data, that is, descriptive, linguistic terms. This has led at 1 end of the spectrum of technology development to machine vision based on image understanding and, at the other, to decision support systems. This has had a significant impact on our capability to derive diagnostic and prognostic information from histopathological material with prostate neoplasms. Cancer 2009;115(13 suppl):3068-77. Cognition relies on transforming sensory inputs into a generalizable understanding of the world. Mirror neurons have been proposed to underlie this process, mapping visual representations of others' actions and sensations onto neurons that mediate our own, providing a conduit for understanding. However, this theory has limitations.

Oppositional and competitive instigation of hippocampal synaptic plasticity by the VTA and locus coeruleus.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

January 2025

Department of Neurophysiology, Medical Faculty, Ruhr University Bochum, Bochum 44780, Germany.

The novelty, saliency, and valency of ongoing experiences potently influence the firing rate of the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the locus coeruleus (LC). Associative experience, in turn, is recorded into memory by means of hippocampal synaptic plasticity that is regulated by noradrenaline sourced from the LC, and dopamine, sourced from both the VTA and LC. Two persistent forms of synaptic plasticity, long-term potentiation (LTP), and long-term depression (LTD) support the encoding of different kinds of spatial experience.

Background: Large language models (LLMs) have been proposed as valuable tools in medical education and practice. The Chinese National Nursing Licensing Examination (CNNLE) presents unique challenges for LLMs due to its requirement for both deep domain-specific nursing knowledge and the ability to make complex clinical decisions, which differentiates it from more general medical examinations. However, their potential application in the CNNLE remains unexplored.

Background: Food choices play a significant role in achieving glycemic goals and optimizing overall health for people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) can provide a comprehensive look at the impact of foods and other behaviors on glucose in real time and over the course of time. The impact of using a nutrition-focused approach (NFA) when initiating CGM in people with T2D is unknown.
