AE4 is an anion exchanger almost exclusively expressed in the collecting ducts of the kidney. This very restricted expression prompted us to analyze its transcription in more detail. 5' RACE yielded alternative transcriptional start sites that are predicted to code for N-terminal protein variants. Comparison of the 5' genomic sequence between species identified a transcriptionally active region with three conserved spans. In transgenic mice beta-galactosidase expression driven by this fragment resembled endogenous AE4 expression and was predominantly restricted to type B intercalated cells. Hence this promoter could prove useful to target type B intercalated cells by genetic approaches.

Hollandite-type α-MnO exhibits exceptional promise in current industrial applications and in advancing next-generation green energy technologies, such as multivalent (Mg, Ca, and Zn) ion battery cathodes and aerobic oxidation catalysts. Considering the slow diffusion of multivalent cations within α-MnO tunnels and the catalytic activity at edge surfaces, ultrasmall α-MnO particles with a lower aspect ratio are expected to unlock the full potential. In this study, ultrasmall α-MnO (<10 nm) with a low aspect ratio (c/a ≈ 2) is synthesized using a newly developed alcohol solution process.

Circularly Polarized Light (CPL)-dependent anomalous photovoltaic effect (APVE), characterized by light helicity-manipulated steady photocurrent and above-bandgap photovoltage, has demonstrated significant potential in the fields of photoelectronic and photovoltaics. However, exploiting CPL-dependent APVE in chiral hybrid perovskites, a promising family with intrinsic chiroptical activity and non-centrosymmetric structure, remains challenging. Here, leveraging the flexible structural design of chiral alternating cations intercalation-type perovskites, CPL-dependent APV, for the first time, is achieved in chiral perovskites.

Rechargeable Mg batteries are promising candidates for achieving considerable high-energy-density. Enhancing the energy density can be achieved by integrating metallic Mg anodes with conversion-type cathode materials, which are characterized by multi-electron transfer process and elevated specific capacities in contrast to intercalation-type materials. Despite these advantages, the conversion-type cathodes still have some challenges of substantial volume expansion, sluggish diffusion kinetics and intricate mesophase evolution during repeated electrochemical reactions.

Of the few weberite-type Na-ion cathodes explored to date, NaFeF exhibits the best performance, with capacities up to 184 mAh/g and energy densities up to 550 Wh/kg reported for this material.
