Plant sphingolipids are lipophilic membrane components essential for different cellular functions but they also act as signaling molecules in various aspects of plant development. However, the interaction between plant sphingolipids and abscission remains largely uncharacterized. Here, the possible role of sphingolipids in regulating fruit abscission was examined in the abscission zone (AZ) of olive fruit.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder characterized by severe motor deficits, cognitive decline and psychiatric disturbances. An early and significant morphological hallmark of HD is the activation of astrocytes triggered by mutant huntingtin, leading to the release of inflammatory mediators. Fingolimod (FTY), an FDA-approved sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptor agonist is used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS), a neuroinflammatory disease, and has shown therapeutic promise in other neurological conditions.

Hsp70:J-domain protein (JDP) machineries play pivotal roles in maintaining cellular proteostasis and governing various aspects of fungal physiology. While Hsp70 is known for its involvement in conferring tolerance to diverse antifungal drugs, the specific contribution of JDPs remains unclear. In this study, we examined the sensitivity of cytosolic JDP deletion strains of budding yeast to amphotericin B (AmB), a polyene antifungal agent widely utilized in fungal disease treatment due to its ability to disrupt the fungal plasma membrane (PM).

The central nervous system (CNS) is one of the most complex physiological systems, and treatment of CNS disorders represents an area of major medical need. One critical aspect of the CNS is its lack of regeneration, such that damage is often permanent. The damage often leads to neurodegeneration, and so strategies for neuroprotection could lead to major medical advances.

Background: Four sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor (S1PR) modulators are currently available in the USA for treating relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). These S1PR modulators have similar efficacy. Clinicians may therefore consider other factors, such as clinical management considerations, when distinguishing among treatments.
