We demonstrate image amplification with a 19-pixel optical image amplifier array based on high gain per unit length Yb(3+)-doped phosphate glass optical fiber. The 19 pixels of the image amplifier provide spatially uniform image amplification whose gain can reach 30 dB/pixel or more with a fiber length of 10 cm. This image amplifier responds quickly to changes in the image position - with potential for GHz-level frame rates. This unique approach for image amplification offers low noise, high gain, and wide field of view in a compact fiber-based device.

Empathy for social pain encompasses both affective and cognitive responses to others' emotional reactions following negative social encounters, facilitating an understanding of their suffering and promoting prosocial behaviors. This study examined how a scarcity mindset affects empathy for social pain and prosocial intentions at behavioral and neural levels. Sixty participants were randomly assigned to either the scarcity or abundance mindset group.

A symmetrical dual-D and dual-core single-mode fiber surface plasmon resonance (SPR) liquid sensor is designed for biological detection. The dual-core design optimizes the transmission path, improves the momentum matching between free electrons and photons, and facilitates bidirectional coupling, consequently amplifying the SPR effect and enabling sensitive monitoring of the refractive index changes of biological solutions. In this structure, a gold wire is placed in the middle of the polished surface of the double-D-shaped single-mode fiber (SMF) to produce high-quality free electrons and promote the mode-coupling excitation of the SPR effect.

Objective: This study aims to propose a dual-domain network that not only reduces scatter artifacts but also retains structure details in CBCT.
Approach: The proposed network comprises a projection-domain sub-network and an image-domain sub-network. The projection-domain sub-network utilizes a division residual network to amplify the difference between scatter signals and imaging signals, facilitating the learning of scatter signals.

High-throughput measurement of cellular traction forces at the nanoscale remains a significant challenge in mechanobiology, limiting our understanding of how cells interact with their microenvironment. Here, we present a novel technique for fabricating protein nanopatterns in standard multiwell microplate formats (96/384-wells), enabling the high-throughput quantification of cellular forces using DNA tension gauge tethers (TGTs) amplified by CRISPR-Cas12a. Our method employs sparse colloidal lithography to create nanopatterned surfaces with feature sizes ranging from sub 100 to 800 nm on transparent, planar, and fully PEGylated substrates.

Listeners with hearing loss have trouble following a conversation in multitalker environments. While modern hearing aids can generally amplify speech, these devices are unable to tune into a target speaker without first knowing to which speaker a user aims to attend. Brain-controlled hearing aids have been proposed using auditory attention decoding (AAD) methods, but current methods use the same model to compare the speech stimulus and neural response, regardless of the dynamic overlap between talkers which is known to influence neural encoding.
