We have written a sampled Bragg grating into a highly photosensitive chalcogenide (As(2)S(3)) rib-waveguide using a scanning Sagnac interferometer. The grating exhibits evenly spaced rejection peaks over a 40 nm bandwidth. We estimate the induced refractive index change of the waveguide to be over 0.03 by matching the measured spectrum to numerical solutions of the coupled mode equations while accounting for an induced chirp. The sampled Bragg grating presented is comparable in strength and bandwidth to the best sampled Bragg gratings obtained to date in silica optical fibre.

Forest Fruits Organic Honey Vinegar (FFOHV) is a spontaneously fermented (yeast) and acetified (Acetic Acid Bacteria-AAB) Miombo Woodland honey vinegar developed in Zambia. Live vinegars containing live microbial cultures are marketed for their probiotic health benefits. The correlation between a well-developed gut microbiome and human health is well studied and fermented products such as live vinegar containing AAB contribute to a healthy gut microbiome.

Convergent-beam attosecond x-ray crystallography.

Sub-ångström spatial resolution of electron density coupled with sub-femtosecond to few-femtosecond temporal resolution is required to directly observe the dynamics of the electronic structure of a molecule after photoinitiation or some other ultrafast perturbation, such as by soft X-rays. Meeting this challenge, pushing the field of quantum crystallography to attosecond timescales, would bring insights into how the electronic and nuclear degrees of freedom couple, enable the study of quantum coherences involved in molecular dynamics, and ultimately enable these dynamics to be controlled. Here, we propose to reach this realm by employing convergent-beam x-ray crystallography with high-power attosecond pulses from a hard-x-ray free-electron laser.

The relationship between intra-specific and inter-specific patterns and processes over evolutionary time is key to ecological investigations. We examine this relationship taking an approach of focussing on the association between vegetation and floristic classifications, summaries of inter-specific processes, and intra-specific genetic structuring. Applying an innovative, multispecies, and standardised population genomic approach, we test the relationship between vegetation mapping schemes and structuring of genetic variation across a large, environmentally heterogenous region in eastern Australia.

A wavelength demodulation method for ultra-short fiber Bragg grating (US-FBG) sensors based on an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) and a convex optimization algorithm is proposed and demonstrated. Instead of measuring the output power ratio of the two adjacent AWG channels as previously done, in this work the wavelength demodulation is realized by reconstructing the US-FBG spectrum. The principle of spectral reconstruction involves using an AWG to sample the spectral information of US-FBG and constructing underdetermined matrix equations with the obtained prior information on transmission responses and the detected output power from multiple AWG channels.

The use of neutron reflectors is an effective method for improving the quality of neutron sources and neutron delivery systems. In this work, we further develop the method based on the Bragg scattering of neutrons in crystals with large interplanar distances. We compare samples of differently prepared fluorine intercalated graphites by measuring the total cross section for the interaction of neutrons with the samples, depending on the neutron wavelength.
