Health technology management in Israel: HTA in action.

Int J Technol Assess Health Care

Israeli Center for Technology Assessment in Health Care, The Gertner Institute, Tel Hashomer, Ramat Gan 52621, Israel.

Published: July 2009

Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the history and present situation with health technology assessment (HTA) in Israel.

Methods: The method used in this study was a historical analysis based mainly on the knowledge of the authors, but supplemented by the published literature.

Results: HTA originated in Israel as a centralized function conducted under the auspice of research, developing into an active multidisciplinary center. Throughout the expansion of the field, HTA was performed in affiliation with several local and international bodies, while providing direct and indirect support at the national level. Today, mainly as a result of vigorous dissemination of the principles, methodology and tools for HTA by the Israeli Center for Technology Assessment in Health Care (ICTAHC), this discipline is increasingly a decentralized activity conducted by a great variety of institutions. Israeli health policy decisions are increasingly based on the results of HTA.

Conclusions: ICTAHC's role and functioning has expanded since its beginnings. HTA has become an important part of health care in Israel.

To analyze the time to reach full enteral feedings (TFEF) among preterm infants with gestational age (GA)<32 weeks admitted to the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) of Chinese Neonatal Network (CHNN). This was a retrospective analysis based on the database from the CHNN 89 participating centers between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2022. All 16 155 preterm infants with a GA <32 weeks and a birth weight <1 500 g, admitted to the NICU within 24 h after birth, hospitalization for at least 7 d and achieved full enteral feedings before discharge were included.

Fluorescent protein-based biosensors are indispensable molecular tools in cell biology and biomedical research, providing non-invasive dynamic measurements of metabolite concentrations and other cellular signals. Traditional methods for developing these biosensors rely on rational design, but directed evolution methods offer a more efficient alternative. This review discusses recent advancements in the development of biosensors using directed evolution, including methods for optimizing domain fusions, sequence optimization, and new screening and selection systems.

The zona incerta (ZI) supports diverse behaviors including binge feeding, sleep-wake cycles, nociception, and hunting. Diverse ZI functions can be attributed to its heterogeneous neurochemical characterization, cytoarchitecture, and efferent connections. The ZI is predominantly GABAergic, but we recently identified a subset of medial ZI GABA cells that are marked by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and produce dopamine (DA).
