The evolution of radiation therapy in Uganda has been a journey marked by significant milestones and persistent challenges. Since the inception of radiotherapy services in 1988-1989, there has been a concerted effort to enhance cancer treatment services. The early years were characterized by foundational developments, such as the installation of the first teletherapy units, low-dose-rate brachytherapy units, and conventional simulators, and the recognition of radiation oncologists and medical physicist professionals laid the groundwork for radiotherapy treatment modalities.

In the field of organ transplantation, the accurate assessment of donor organ quality is necessary to efficient organ allocation and to informed consent for recipients. A common approach to organ quality assessment is the development of statistical models that accurately predict post-transplant survival by integrating multiple characteristics of the donor and allograft. Despite the proliferation of predictive models across many domains of medicine, many physicians may have limited familiarity with how these models are built, the assessment of how well models function in their population and the risks of a poorly performing model.

Problem: To address the long waiting times patients incur when visiting outpatient departments in India.
Approach: In 2022, the National Health Authority in India developed a paperless service, called Scan and Share, leveraging mobile technology and QR (quick-response) codes to streamline outpatient department appointments. Patients can use a mobile application (app) to scan QR codes at health facilities, generating tokens linked to registration counters.

Background: The medicines retail sector (MRS) enables access to life-saving health commodities. Despite efforts to harness this market for public health goals, in low- and middle-income countries it is rarely incorporated into pandemic preparedness. This paper analyses the role of the MRS in the response to COVID-19 in Uganda, the extent to which it was incorporated into national planning and in the continuity of essential services.
