Transfusion
July 2020
Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Background: The AABB Clinical Transfusion Medicine Committee (CTMC) compiles an annual synopsis of the published literature covering important developments in the field of transfusion medicine (TM) for the board of director's review. This synopsis is now made available as a manuscript published in TRANSFUSION.
Study Design And Methods: CTMC committee members review original manuscripts including TM-related topics published in different journals between late 2018 and 2019.
Transfus Med
April 2019
Institute for Transfusion Medicine Dessau, Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service NSTOB, Dessau, Germany.
Objectives: Our study aimed to establish a novel multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for rapid simultaneous detection of all relevant human neutrophil antigen (HNA)-1, -3, -4 and -5 alleles.
Background: Granulocyte-reactive antibodies are involved in several diseases, such as neonatal alloimmune neutropenia, autoimmune neutropenia and transfusion-related acute lung injury. A panel of well-defined test granulocytes is required for diagnostic antibody detection and prospective blood donor screening.
Transfusion
August 2010
American Red Cross, Penn-Jersey Region, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19123, USA.
Background: Efforts to minimize white blood cell alloantibodies, responsible for transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) in components with high-volume single-donor plasma include consideration of plateletpheresis donor screening for human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibodies. High-throughput screening platforms make this feasible for large blood centers. Which platform to use, donor subgroups to screen, characteristics of detected antibodies, and operational impact of deferring reactive donors are important questions.
