Cisplatin has been known as an anticancer drug for a long time. It is therapeutically active upon binding to DNA. A double-bound cisplatin bends DNA into a localized kink. We model the elastic properties of cisplatin-DNA adducts at moderate tension (<6 pN). It is shown that from the mechanical point of view the action of cisplatin can be revealed by reduced persistence length. We derived two expressions for the persistence length, which apply in the linear-response and the strong-force regimes, respectively. Experimental data for DNA adducts stretched by magnetic tweezers are consistently fitted by these expressions. This allows us to estimate the degree of platination at various salt concentrations.

The study was designed to investigate the pattern of intraventricular Hemo-Dynamic Forces (HDF) and myocardial performance during exercise in Elite Cyclists (EC). Transthoracic stress echocardiography was performed on nineteen EC and thirteen age-matched sedentary controls (SC) at three incremental exercise intensities based on Heart Rate Reserve (HRR). Left Ventricular (LV) HDF were computed from echocardiography long-axis data sets using a novel technique based on endocardial boundary tracking, both in apex-base and latero-septal directions.

Polyphenols are known to interact with starch to form the V-type inclusion complex or the noninclusive complex. It is hypothesized that the addition of polyphenols could improve the properties of Chinese yam (Dioscorea opposita Thunb.) starch, and the properties of the complexes could be regulated by controlling the additive amount of polyphenols.

Anxiety, a mental state in healthy individuals, is characterized by apprehension of potential future threats. Though the neurobiological basis of anxiety has been investigated widely in the clinical populations, the underly mechanism of neuroanatomical correlates with anxiety level in healthy young adults is still unclear. In this study, 1080 young adults were enrolled from the Human Connectome Project Young Adult dataset, and machine learning-based elastic net regression models with cross validation, together with linear mix effects (LME) models were adopted to investigate whether the neuroanatomical profiles of structural magnetic resonance imaging indicators associated with anxiety level in healthy young adults.

Multivalent-ion batteries offer an alternative to Li-based technologies, with the potential for greater sustainability, improved safety, and higher energy density, primarily due to their rechargeable system featuring a passivating metal anode. Although a system based on the Ca/Ca couple is particularly attractive given the low electrochemical plating potential of Ca, the remaining challenge for a viable rechargeable Ca battery is to identify Ca cathodes with fast ion transport. In this work, a high-throughput computational pipeline is adapted to (1) discover novel Ca cathodes in a largely unexplored space of "empty intercalation hosts" and (2) develop material design rules for Ca-ion mobility.

Sweet potato-oat composite dough is a nutritious, functional dough with promising market potential. This study investigates its quality changes during freeze-thaw cycles from the perspectives of ice crystals and protein alterations to provide theoretical support for its processing and production. After freeze-thaw cycles, both the storage modulus and loss modulus of the dough decrease, resulting in increased hardness, reduced resilience and chewiness, lower sensory scores, decreased specific volume, and darker color.
