The structural properties of a binary colloidal quasi-one-dimensional system confined in a narrow channel are investigated through modified Monte Carlo simulations. Two species of particles with different magnetic moment interact through a repulsive dipole-dipole force are confined in a quasi-one-dimensional channel. The impact of three decisive parameters (the density of particles, the magnetic-moment ratio, and the fraction between the two species) on the transition from disordered phase to crystal-like phases and the transitions among the different mixed phases are summarized in a phase diagram.

Ag-boosted hydroxyl adspecies generation and carbonyl intermediates release for Pt-Ag-catalyzed ethylene glycol electro-oxidation.

Electro-reforming of organics such as alcohols into commodity chemicals and H powered by renewables is intriguing and prevailing with the remarkable renaissance of electrochemical technology. Integrating Pt/Pd with an auxiliary metal, metal oxide, and metal hydroxide are feasible strategies to design the desirable catalysts toward alcohols electro-oxidation reactions. These catalysts however have high affinity toward carbonyl intermediates that occupy and poison the active sites.

Hypothesis: Due to its huge polar headgroup, octaoxyethylene octyl ether carboxylic acid (CECHCOOH = Akypo LF2™) is supposed not to be able to change its curvature sufficiently to form bicontinuous microemulsions. Instead, upon adding an oil to the binary water - surfactant system, excess oil could be squeezed out or a biliquid foam could form.

Experiments: An auto-dilution setup was used to record small-angle X-ray scattering data along six dilution lines in the newly established phase diagram of the ternary system 2-ethylhexanol - CECHCOOH - water.

Colloidal crystal engineering enables the precise construction of structures with remarkable properties. However, the flexible and synergistic regulation of multiple properties of colloidal crystals remains a significant challenge. Here, we inspire from Brazilian opals to self-assemble polymer nanoparticles in the gaps of a single-layer opal substrate to fabricate large-scale binary colloidal crystals (BCCs).

Heterogeneous amylopectin delays short-term retrogradation via fabricating a binary gel network within steamed cold noodles.

Food Res Int

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Jianghuai Agricultural Product Fine Processing and Resource Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Anhui Engineering Research Center for High Value Utilization of Characteristic Agricultural Products, College of Food and Nutrition, Anhui Agricultural University, Hefei, China. Electronic address:

This study aimed to investigate the influence of heterogeneous amylopectin (waxy corn starch, WCS) on the retrogradation of wheat starch (WS), hoping to provide a new idea for alleviating the retrogradation of steamed cold noodles. The chain length distribution data confirmed the formation of a binary gel network resulting from the heterogeneous amylopectin structure between WCS and WS. With the increase of WCS concentration, the modulus and setback value of WS-WCS binary gel decreased, which was attributed to the newly built network structure hindering the aggregation of WS molecules.

: This study evaluated how the relative proportion of chitosan (CS) to the polyanions alginate (ALG) and hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose phthalate (HP) affects the colloidal properties of mesalazine (MSZ) nanosuspensions as a strategy to produce particles with specific characteristics. : Nanosuspensions were prepared using a bottom-up approach based on acid-base reactions and were modified with CS in a binary mixture with ALG or a ternary mixture with ALG and HP. The particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential, morphology, and drug association efficiency were analyzed.
