Providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an essential competency for nurses. Nurse educators involved in staff development and continuing education spend numerous hours offering basic life support courses and conducting performance improvement activities such as mock codes. This study provides evidence that cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance skills using self-directed learning methods are as good as or, on a number of parameters, better than those achieved with a more resource- and time-intensive traditional approach.

Objective: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a high-risk procedure with significant morbidity and mortality and there is an uncertain volume-outcome relationship, especially regarding long-term functional outcomes. The aim of this study was to examine the association between ECMO centre volume and long-term death and disability outcomes.
Design Setting And Participants: This is a registry-embedded observational cohort study.

The ultimate goal of cardiac arrest-cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CA-CPR) is to reduce brain damage and promote neurological recovery. Although the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) has improved, the proportion of patients who survive to discharge is very low, so how to evaluate the recovery of brain function after resuscitation is particularly important in clinical work. From a clinical perspective, although early prognostic indicators are not perfect, identifying high-risk features may help clinicians determine the severity of brain injury caused by a patient's potential course of disease.

Objective: To investigate the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on paroxysmal sympathetic hyperexcitation (PSH) after brain injury.
Methods: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted. Fifty-six patients with PSH who received HBO treatment from four hospitals in Henan Province from January 2021 to September 2023 were selected as the HBO group, and 36 patients with PSH who did not receive HBO treatment from Zhengzhou People's Hospital from May 2018 to December 2020 were selected as the control group.

Background: While several studies have reported on outcomes of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in patients with single ventricle physiology, few studies have described outcomes of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) in this unique population. The objective of this study was to determine survival and risk factors for mortality after ECPR in single ventricle patients prior to superior cavopulmonary anastomosis, using a large sample from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Registry.
Methods: We included single ventricle patients who underwent ECPR for in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) between January 2012 and December 2021.

Background/aims: Elevated troponin levels predict in-hospital mortality and influence decisions regarding thrombolytic therapy in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). However, the usefulness of high-sensitivity troponin T (hsTnT) regarding PE remains uncertain. We aimed to establish the optimal cut-off level and compare its performance for precise risk stratification.
