The diffraction efficiency of gratings written in ternary SnO2:SiO2:Na2O bulk glasses rises dramatically with time after the occultation of the cw 244nm light used to write the thick hologram. This self-induced behavior lasts for several hours and ultimately leads to refractive index changes as high as 3 10-3.

This work explores the enhancement of EMI shielding efficiency of polyurethane (PU) foam by loading multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNTs)-decorated hollow glass microspheres (HGMs). MWCNT was coated onto the HGM surface by a simple solution casting technique. The coated HGM particles were loaded in PU foams, resulting in an even dispersion of MWCNT in the foam struts, thereby forming an interconnected conductive network in the polymer matrix.

We used density functional theory with a hybrid functional to investigate the structure and properties of [4H] (hydrogarnet) defects in -quartz as well as the reactions of these defects with electron holes and extra hydrogen atoms and ions. The results demonstrate the depassivation mechanisms of hydrogen-passivated silicon vacancies in -quartz, providing a detailed understanding of their stability, electronic properties, and behaviour in different charge states. While fully hydrogen passivated silicon vacancies are electrically inert, the partial removal of hydrogen atoms activates these defects as hole traps, altering the defect states and influencing the electronic properties of the material.
