Objective: To study the distribution of the direct medical cost for the pneumoconiosis and provide a clue for the compensation.

Methods: According to the electronic records for the medical cost of pneumoconiosis, 237 patients were investigated with questionnaires. Their medical cost was described by disability levels, types of work, the categories of tuberculosis, ages and length of work.

Results: In the 237 cases of questionnaires, there were 161 cases with complications, accounting for 67.9%, and the proportion of the emphysema in the complication cases was 21.1%. The proportion of the disability level IV for pneumoconiosis patients was about 55.7% in all cases. Their total medical cost ranged from 3946.5 yuan RMB to 8819.3 yuan RMB per patient per year, and the median was 6954.2 yuan RMB per patient per year.

Conclusion: The disability levels can be considered as the standard for the pneumoconiosis compensation to a certain extent.

Outcomes With Radiation Therapy as Primary Treatment for Unresectable Cutaneous Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol)

Aims: Unresectable cutaneous squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (HNcSCC) poses treatment challenges in elderly and comorbid patients. Radiation therapy (RT) is often employed for locoregional control. This study aimed to determine progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) outcomes achieved with upfront RT in unresectable HNcSCC.

Background: Objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) are a widely recognized and accepted method to assess clinical competencies but are often resource-intensive.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a virtual reality (VR)-based station (VRS) compared with a traditional physical station (PHS) in an already established curricular OSCE.

Methods: Fifth-year medical students participated in an OSCE consisting of 10 stations.

Objective: This study focuses on epidermal growth factor receptor-mutated lung adenocarcinoma, known for frequent brain metastasis. It aimed to compare the clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness of combining Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) (GKRS+TKI group) versus TKIs alone (TKI group) for the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed brain metastasis in this condition.

Methods: Study characteristics of the two groups were matched using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW).

Purpose: Lumbar puncture is a frequently performed procedure for patients undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This brief procedure is frequently performed with sedation in young patients but with only local anesthesia in adults. Adolescent and young adult patients may be cared for by physicians with different training backgrounds and sedation preferences, making the utilization of sedation for lumbar punctures variable among providers.

Background: Financial toxicity is the detrimental impact of health care costs that must be mitigated to achieve universal health coverage. Catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) is widely used to measure financial toxicity but does not capture patient perspectives of unaffordable health care costs. Financial hardship (FH), a patient-reported outcome measure, is currently underutilized but may be an important adjunct metric.
